HILL & OBO MEET IN SECRET

June 6, 2008 -- "Barack Obama secretly met with former rival Hillary Rodham Clinton late yesterday, just one day after she said she would end her fight for the Democratic presidential nomination.

"They did meet tonight," Robert Gibbs, Obama's communications director, confirmed.

But Gibbs, speaking aboard Obama's campaign plane traveling from Washington to Chicago, said speculation that they met at Clinton's DC home was incorrect. He declined to disclose the location or details of what was discussed.

Other sources, though, told The Post the meeting was at the Washington home of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).

Another Democratic source told The Post late last night that the ex-foes "wanted to talk about bringing the campaigns and their party together."

The Illinois senator had been scheduled to fly back to his home city last evening after a rally in northern Virginia, but stayed behind for the meeting with Clinton, letting his plane go on without him.

CNN reported the Obama-Clinton session was "a small meeting" with perhaps just the two senators and a few aides in attendance.

While the meeting seemed to play to mounting pressure on Obama to create a "unity ticket," he had earlier told CNN he was going to move slowly in choosing his running mate.

"I am a big believer in making decisions well - not making them fast and not responding to pressure," he told the cable network.

Clinton's advisers also tamped down calls for a unity ticket, saying in a statement, "While Senator Clinton has made clear throughout this process that she will do whatever she can to elect a Democrat to the White House, she is not seeking the vice presidency, and no one speaks for her but her."

Clinton is planning an event in Washington tomorrow to endorse Obama, even as her supporters clamor for her to be invited to be his running mate.

Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television and a Clinton supporter, yesterday sent a letter to the Congressional Black Caucus urging members to encourage Obama to pick Clinton as his running mate, NBC reported.

Okay now, I might as well admit that yesterday I myself had several secret meetings, in that the press was not invited nor even notified. I'll probably have more today, and I imagine you will too. The difference though between us and them, is that we aren't dumbass enough to hobnob with liberals.
