New York policeman pleads guilty in Muhlenberg bank robbery
Reading, PA - "A New York City transit policeman who has been placed on suspension pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Reading to robbing a Muhlenberg Township bank.
Christian A. Torres, 21, a rookie transit policeman, pleaded guilty to robbing a Sovereign Bank using a firearm.
Under federal guidelines, the weapons charge carries a mandatory seven-year sentence in addition to the term Torres receives for the robbery.
U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Golden ordered Torres to remain in federal custody.
Federal charges also are pending against Torres in two bank holdups in New York in 2007.
All the robberies were at Sovereign Banks.
In the New York cases, Torres is charged along with Christina Dasrath, 20, of Queens, a teller in the branch Torres is accused of robbing twice.
Dasrath is in federal custody without bail.
"It has been a very difficult road for Christian," said Torres' attorney, Paul S. Missan of Reading. "He is happy to have this portion of the case resolved."
Missan said he did not know why Torres picked a Sovereign Bank in the Reading area for the third robbery."
Easy pickin's?
And while many departments don't like hiring those with too high of an IQ, there's nothing holding them back from employing the ones with the lowest.
Obviously.
