It Was Frank Zappa's old group The Mothers Of Invention, who I believe had a really cool song on their Suzy Creamcheese album.

And how cool is that when considering the fact that today it's not even what you SAY that can get you in hot water, but what you were THINKING as well:

"Bill Bennett is standing firm in the face of an attack launched by David Brock's foul MediaMatters.org site. In a week-end roundup, MM clarified what it found invidious about Bennett's comments regarding abortion, crime and race, which we analyzed Friday (italics in original, boldface ours):

Bennett and his defenders have seized on Bennett's original statement that it would be "impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible" to actually abort all black babies. But that isn't the issue; of course everyone understands that Bill Bennett doesn't want to abort all black babies. The issue is that Bennett, upon thinking "crime rate," immediately thought of black people. The issue is that Bennett thinks and speaks of crime as an issue of race.

Here we see the totalitarian mindset of the politically correct left. "The issue," it turns out, isn't just what Bennett said but what Bennett thinks. Yes, MediaMatters is accusing Bill Bennett of thoughtcrime. It's "1984," and Big Brock is watching. Fortunately, Brock and his force are more Keystone Kops than Thought Police, and therefore this column, like Bennett, is not afraid to entertain some forbidden thoughts.
It is a fact that blacks in America have a far higher violent crime rate than nonblacks. MediaMatters and politically correct folks everywhere do not want you to think about this fact, at least if you are white. But which is a bigger problem, the fact itself or white people's thinking about it?

To explore that question, consider the practical implications of the high black crime rate. If you are white, it affects you only insofar as you come into contact with black people. Whites often respond to their knowledge of the higher black crime rate by engaging in what we might term defensive stereotyping, or what some have called "rational discrimination": avoiding black neighborhoods, crossing the street to avoid an approaching black man, etc."

Well, as always James Taranto of OpinionJournal - Best of the Web Today makes a good point even as he is missing another, but hey, it's not like there are THAT many rennaisance men to go around, you know?

ONLY insofar? So what does one do, James, and stop with crossing the street to remove oneself from a black man's approach, what does one do when the black man follows. Or breaks into the apartment or house or condo and mugs you. Can't move yourself, your family, or your house across the street every time you catch a whiff of fried chicken heading towards the door, so it is ludicrous to assert that black crime affects whites only from contact, when that's the very problem to begin with because one cannot always run away. Only Beaten? Only Raped? Only Robbed? Only Killed? Just cross the street?

Now, I appreciate it when ANY big media maven says something even approaching the truth, and shouldn't really be upset with James for waffling with the "cross and all is well" flipfloppery, but there wouldn't BE a high instance of black crime were it that easy. So it affects whites, browns, pinks and purples in MANY, many ways when a particular group runs rampant. Costs in property, costs in lives and costs in a loss of the simple feeling we all like to have, the feeling of safety.

But crossing places at least some of the blame on non-blacks - hey, all ya gotta do is stay out of their neighborhoods or jaywalk now and again and all is cool -so I do suppose it's always good to leave a bolt hole should the PC Police arrive for a chat.

PS: Thank the good lord for Florida, and Texas, and Arizona, and Georgia, and Tennessee and all of the states that allow people to fight back rather than forcing them to run and be cut down from behind like dogs. Hundreds of criminal acts are stopped dead in the water every day when the legally armed citizen is "allowed" to protect home and hearth, kith and kin.
