Armed citizen patrol in New Haven

(New Haven-WTNH) _ "One group armed with guns is ready to make their New Haven neighborhood a safer place by patrolling in the area around Edgewood Park.

A press conference Monday announced the formation of the Edgewood Park Defense Patrol. The group was formed as a direct response to an escalation of crimes such as vandalism, robberies and muggings. As recently as Sunday night, Rabbi Daniel Greer was assaulted outside his home and now he will be part of the armed patrol.

"You have the weapon but it's not an indicator that you're going to use it, it's an indicator that you're going out there and to use it to protect citizens and your neighborhood and people who work hard," said Eliezer Greer of the Edgewood Park Defense Patrol.

Those patrolling the area Monday night say they have had proper training. They also say that they are not vigilante's, but rather they are just trying to keep their neighborhood safe. They will be patrolling the streets in pairs, with one person holding the concealed weapon.

Mayor DeStefano says he is disappointed by the patrol and that such action sets a bad precedent."

PRECISELY the precedent the Founding Fathers believed wholeheartedly in, you tramp. So lets get this straight; The police obviously cannot enforce the law to the standards deemed adequate by the good citizens of New Haven. Where Eli Whitney's factory made some mighty fine COLTS, by the way, so the men of the community decided enough is enough. This is the town where illegal immigrants are offered identity cards, that's right, IDENTITY CARDS so that they might open bank accounts and the like.

Getting the picture? Instead of sending their illegals to prison or deporting them, New Haven issues laminated ID's.

Now, I'm not saying that the Edgewood Park Defense Patrol is even close to being a carbon copy of the Hogtown Irregulars, but good on ya, lads. And to Mayor DeStefano and Police Chief Francisco Ortiz, aka Set 'Em Free Ortiz...SHAME. For SHAME.
