We Get Letters

"Getting a nice price on a Sistema 1927 so are they worth 250 to 300 especially when the blueing is gone..."

First off, if you're itching to redo the gun get a real blue job if possible. Nothing wrong with Duracote if you don't mind chips flaking off for the first month or so of use. Just hard to beat a good blue. The Sistema 1927's were made quite well...for a 1911...and you'd have to spend around $2K for an out of the box .45ACP that'd be better built. Will it feed modern ammo? Dunno. Box O' Detweiler re-did one a while back then bragged about how well it fired ball but you won't be using ball for anything but plinking so if this is intended to be a home protection or carry gun then at the end of the day you might be left with Federal's expanding FMJ because nary a hollow point will work. There are plenty of modern firearms that will yield terminal ballistics greater than .45" in diameter and the only real reason...besides simply liking the gun...to operate a .45 is to make as big an ouchie as possible.

Then again, if you like it as-is don't mess with a thing except giving it a good cleaning. People who know a lot more than I do about 1927 Sistema innards have good things to say about the fit, finish, and quality of steel. And even people who know a helluva lot less about what happens when you make a hole with one agree that for a combat sidearm they are hard to beat for the price, and $250-$300 sounds about right.

Expect the gun to do what it was designed to do and there will not be any buyers remorse. But if you paint it green I'll track you down.
