California, South Dakota shooters win gunslinger contest

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - "Shooters from California and South Dakota won top honors in the second annual Wisconsin state championship cowboy fast draw competition last weekend.

Lori Adrihan says the event in Stevens Point attracted 57 gunslingers from several states.

Marshall Hopper of the Idaho-based Cowboy Fast Draw Association says the men's winner was John Wilson of Sierra Madre, California, and the women's champ was Diane Royalty of Mitchell, South Dakota.

Gunslingers line up 21 feet away, draw their guns and fire. The fastest one to hit the target wins. The best shooters can pull their guns and fire in less than half of a second."

The only gripe I have with Cowboy Action Shooting is the pipsqueak pop-gun loads they use. 230 grainers lallygagging along at 500 fps are more of a danger to the shooter than the one being shot at, as heaven forbid the round hits a piece of wood or the morning newspaper and ricochets right back atcha.
