Bat Bernie Cleanup

Tonight, versus David Wells and the Red Sox.

The first 3 Yankee hitters are batting .338 versus lefthanders.

Then there's the rest. Except for Bernie Williams. .318 against southpaws means the pressure stays on Wells throughout 1-4 and the remaining hiters get to see what he has for the day.

Then Rodriguez who's clubbing lefties to a .266 clip followed by Posada at .274. Throw in Cano, Wilson and Melk, saving Giambi for pinch-hitting duties against the Sox pen.

Win-win because it takes the pressure off Rodriguez, gives Giambi a rest, and this lineup makes ANY southpaw cringe. Sends a message as well. We're not going back to NY 4 and a half games up when we want a 6 and a half cushion. We mean business and will show no mercy. Not even on getaway day.

Which is why Joe Torre won't do it. Too much thinking. You can't manage and think at the same time, and besides; Joe thinks going for the jugular means sending in a guy who tosses bowling pins and doesn't drop too many.
