A clerk on Monday shot and killed a man trying to rob a northeast Charlotte convenience store, police say, in the fourth case this month of a potential victim shooting a would-be robber.
It happened about 10 a.m. at Charlotte Fast Mart Food & Beverage Store on Tom Hunter Road, near the Interstate 85-Sugar Creek Road interchange in the Hidden Valley neighborhood.
A man entered the store, said he had a gun and demanded money, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said. The clerk confronted the man and shot him once as he lunged toward her at the counter, police said. Officers who responded found the man lying inside the front door. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors said robberies are common at the store, the only business in the immediate neighborhood.
"This is an ongoing thing. I guess they're tired of it," said 25-year-old Jay Diggs, who lives at a nearby apartment complex and said he stops at the store nearly every day. "They've robbed this place six or seven times."
One shot, one kill. One of these days someone is going to make available a database for such goings on. Don't hear of convenience store workers whining about robbers out-gunning them, do we? With, sob, assault-type-weapons, sniff. Bad guy does bad, good guy shoots.
Keep. It. Simple. Stupid.
