Police Shooting Begins The Call For Gun Control

Two members of the NYPD were shot in Brooklyn yesterday. One probably isn't going to make it, and the other was saved by his body armor, not "bulletproof vest" as the tabloids have been referring to it as. You can read the story here.

Michael Daly of the NY Daily News uses this tragedy to promote an anti-gun agenda, but that's what liberals do. Pile atop the fallen to make a senseless point.

"As Timoshenko now followed Bramdon and hundreds of others, those who rushed to the emergency room included Mayor Bloomberg. He has been our most passionate and persistent voice against illegal guns, but no amount of tragedy seems enough to prompt the federal government to act.

We should hope Bloomberg runs for President if for no other reason than to give voice against the gun madness. We certainly cannot count on his predecessor. Rudy Giuliani grew up in the very neighborhood where the two cops were shot yesterday. He rushed to the bedside of many shot cops when he was mayor, but he was down in Georgia last week saying he thought the gun laws were pretty much adequate."

What we should really hope for is cities like NY to restore the death penalty, because this never ending blaming of the tool shifts the focus away from the genuine problem. Most likely, a guy with a rap-sheet a mile long was allowed to roam the streets until, lo and behold, he hurt someone. If it were two ordinary civilians in the hospital the story would have garnered a below the fold footnote, but sadly it does take the wounding of officers before the legal system starts getting tough with criminals.

The way to prevent crime is to catch criminals. Wow. What a concept. The way to coddle criminals is to blame the evil gun. Illegal gun traffickers should go to jail until they're too old to harm anyone. But it's easier to blame you and me and the Constitution, and once again the loons crawl out from under the woodwork in the attempt to take away our rights because we, you see, are like shooting fish in a barrel. We'll do whatever they tell us to do. Crooks are dangerous and scary and run free. And not for nothing, but it really wouldn't hurt to teach cops how to approach a stolen car with bad guys inside. They'll come after you with a no-knock in the wee hours of the morning with SWAT and dogs but waltz up to a felony in progress, firing off a dozen or so shots that hit nothing, and something is really wrong with that picture.
