RIP Jim Cirillo

"A motorist reportedly trying to make a U-turn was killed Thursday night when his vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer, Madison County Sheriff's deputies say.

James Cirillo, 76, of West Edmeston, N.Y., and Sarasota, Fla., died at the scene on Welsh Road in the Madison County town of Brookfield. The tractor trailer driver was injured, suffering back injuries. He was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica, deputies say.

Witnesses say Cirillo entered Route 8 in an apparent try to make a U-turn. It appears that Cirillo did not see the tractor trailer that was rounding a curve near the intersection, deputies say.

The vehicle crossed into the path of the tractor trailer. The collision carried the vehicles off the road and nearly over a steep embankment. Guard rails and guide wires prevented the vehicles from going over, deputies say."

I never personally knew the man. A cousin, long since retired from the NYPD, couldn't stop talking about Jim and how someday I should meet the guy. Think Safestop bullets. Think the training videos. Back when everyone else was scratching their heads, a real gunfighter named Jim was working on more effective ammunition and better ways to train for the untrainable. Damn but this makes me sad.

Got the news and the link from Dean Speir's Your American Backyard Forum.
