Today In History: "This is a mortal wound, Doctor..."
Last words of Alexander Hamilton.
The duel between he and Burr took place July 11, 1804, and Hamilton died the following day from a wound to the lower abdomen, slightly above the right hip. The projectile did some bouncing about, mostly through the liver, before coming to rest in the second lumbar vertebra.
