Wedding Bells Are Joining Up Those Old Gays Up North

Civil union bells will ring across New Jersey this week as gay couples make their partnerships legal.

The state law allowing them the same rights and benefits as married couples comes into effect tomorrow and some municipal clerks' offices are opening on the holiday so they can issue licenses right away.

There is a mandatory 72-hour waiting period, and the first ceremonies will take place on Thursday and Friday.

The vows: "Because of our love of music and theater we are going to sing our vows to each other," explains Christopher. They are writing their own vows and setting them to specially composed music. "My song will be about us growing old together and our shared sentiment of 'come what may'," says Keith. "We don't have to follow protocol, and we're looking forward to customizing our day."

Gift registry: "We've registered for so many things at Crate & Barrel and Bed, Bath & Beyond," says Christopher. "It was so much fun choosing. We're hoping to receive some beautiful china, silverware and Vera Wang stemware."

Music: The deejay is under strict instructions NOT to play the Chicken Dance or Electric Slide. First dance is to Harry Connick Jr.'s version of "For Once In My Life" which will be fully choreographed because the pair plans to take dance classes. "There will be a cabaret-style black-and-white theme with everyone dressing in monochrome," adds Christopher. "We want a relaxed lounge atmosphere. It's going to be a fabulous party!"

Favors: They loved wedding planner Samantha Goldberg's idea of their 40 guests helping themselves to scoops of their favorite childhood candies such as Gummi bears, button candy and Reese's Pieces.

So there you have it. Anyone wishing to contribute to Christopher and Keith's Civil Union, may contact any of the above stores in NYC or Northern NJ. The Vera Wang Tiara Stemware pictured above, is only $140 for a 4-piece set and I'm sure the boys would love you forever.
