While We Await The "Confessions"

TEHRAN, Iran — "Iran's official Arabic-language satellite television channel said Sunday it planned to air "confessions" from two of the 15 British sailors captured by Iran 10 days ago.

Al-Alam TV said it would broadcast excerpts of what it said were "confessions." It did not say specifically when it would be aired or name which sailors would appear.

The government-run station broadcast video of the crew last week, including footage of a captured marine apologizing for entering Iranian waters "without permission."

This whole mess with iran is giving me that creepy feeling all over again back when Carter all but killed the Shah and started the country down the road to a confrontation with us. Bad enough that I saw 300 last night. The spartans think that was gore, then let a Marine company loose near tehran with no media around. Anyway, the disgusting spectacle continues, and word from Un-Great Britain is disconcerting. Begging these bastards won't work.

UPDATE

They Confessed

TEHRAN, Iran — "Iranian state-run television channels on Sunday aired short video clips of what they said were two of the 15 captured British sailors who said they have been treated well as they pointed to a map of the Persian Gulf.

The TV broadcasts said the two sailors were identifying where their boat crossed into Iranian waters on March 23, leading to their capture.

The British sailors and marines were detained by Iranian naval units while patrolling for smugglers as part of a U.N.-mandated force patrolling the Persian Gulf. Iran insists the sailors had trespassed into its waters, but Britain says the team was in Iraqi waters.

Two Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting channels, which are in Farsi, showed the two sailors, who wore military fatigues and appeared relaxed, in separate video clips. They both pointed at the same map of the Persian Gulf.

The first sailor, who was identified by the IRIB channels in Farsi as Capt. Chris Eir, told the camera after pointing at the map that the captured sailors have been "treated very well by all the people here. They look after us. ... We've been treated very well and we thank you for that."

The second sailor pointed to an area on the map and told the camera that location was where he and the 14 others were arrested.

"I'd like to say to the Iranian people, I can understand why you are so angry about our intrusion into your waters," said the sailor, who was identified by IRIB in Farsi as Felix Karmon.

The government-run Arabic-language TV station also broadcasted the video clips of the sailors but did not air their voices. Instead, the newscaster said the two "have confessed" to trespassing into Iranian waters "illegally."
