Woman Accidentally Runs Over Her Family With New Van

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — "A woman trying out her new van accidentally hit four members of her family, including her infant daughter.

Police said the accident happened at an Annapolis apartment complex just before 10 p.m. Thursday, when the Patel family gathered to see their new Honda Odyssey. The woman driving — 35-year-old Urvashiben Patel — accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes and ran into her family gathered on the steps of the complex's community center.

Patel's 3-month-old daughter, Parchi Patel, was in critical condition Friday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Also in critical condition was 44-year-old Saroj Patel, whose arm was severed. Another victim was Mrs. Patel's mother-in-law, a 75-year-old woman listed in critical but stable condition at the hospital.

The woman driving was too distraught to talk to a reporter from The (Annapolis) Capital Friday morning. There was no immediate word on whether any charges would be filed in the accident."

Aside from wondering how it is that I've never once heard of a man running over his family the way women do, I won't go cheap and bring on the women driver jokes. And no, there won't be any charges filed. The tens of thousands of people killed, and the hundreds of thousands maimed annually by motor vehicles is chalked up to life in the modern world. A soccer mom can run her family into the asphalt without anyone blinking and eye but let a gun mistakenly discharge...except when by an officer of the law of course...and the Jurassic Press would have you believe that the end of the world as we know it is nigh.
