The Only Ones Shooting Ourselves In The Ass Enough...

MOULTRIE — "A Moultrie police officer who accidentally shot himself in April was back on duty only a few days after the incident took place.

Moultrie Police Chief Frank Lang said Officer Andrew Underwood accidentally shot himself April 12 but was released from Colquitt Regional Medical Center by the next day. He suffered a non-life threatening flesh wound and was back on duty within a few days of the incident.

According to the report, Underwood, who was off-duty, was sitting on his .40-caliber Glock in its holster in his Honda Accord. As he was getting out of the car at his residence, he stated, it felt like his gun was about to fall out of its holster.

When Underwood reached for the gun, the report said, it discharged one bullet that struck him in the right buttock area. The bullet came out from his jeans and was recovered in the car’s seat. Underwood was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center for treatment.

While at Colquitt Regional, the report said, a Moultrie police investigator took over the initial investigation. Lang said he contacted the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office himself, and they conducted an investigation. No charges were filed in the incident.

There was nothing suspicious or mysterious about the incident or the gun Underwood had on him, Lang said.

“We try to take every safety precaution we can to prevent injuries,” Lang said. “We have to be careful. If things can happen, they will.”

This story is just too funny. So then, he was sitting on his Glock in its holster. Why he would do that is beyond the pale, but it gets even funnier. Feeling that his gun was JUMPING away to be free, free at last, he reached for the thing but it SHOT HIM. An investigation was but of course conducted, hey, can't have guns running wild that just up and shoot their owners, but charges were not filed against either the inanimate object nor the idiot who squeezed the trigger and shot himself in the ass. And know what, Chief? Stupid things WILL happen to stupid people. The epitome of stupid just might be someone who shoots himself in the ass with his own gun, and employing someone like that is far, FAR, from being careful.
