New York: Meter Maid Slapping Now a Felony

Shoving a meter maid and interrupting the issuance of a parking ticket is now a felony in the state of New York. Legislation passed unanimously in the state assembly and senate took effect last Tuesday elevating any physical contact for which a meter maid can claim an injury to a Class D felony carrying a prison sentence of up to seven years. Lawmakers wanted to embolden the army of 2000 New York City employees responsible for bringing in $580 million in annual ticket revenue.

Look, I don't want anyone to get slapped or shoved around or otherwise assaulted for no good reason. Hell. 300-pound minority women have enough problems without being pummeled for writing a parking ticket. And remember, they are that fat because they are poor, so please don't pick on the indigent.

Brush by a cop in NYC, and, after he draws down on you, you'll be charged with assaulting a police officer. Special laws for special people has never worked out all that well. Thanks to Dustbury for the link.
