"The NYPD conducted more than 500,000 stop-and-frisks last year, with blacks five times more likely to be searched than whites, according to statistics released yesterday."
This is troubling to say the least. Since blacks account for 8 times the amount of total crime, the fact that they are only being frisked 5 times as much as whites means someone isn't doing their job, and no wonder violent crime is on the upswing.
The august NY Times says that it's a weapons search that leads the boys in blue to pat-down orgies, but we all know that while they ARE petrified that their injury rates might creep to within a tenth of other city workers, the cops are looking for that quick drug bust as much as anything else. Half a joint is a $350 fine...same as beeping your horn in downtown Manhattan...and the tax collectors disguised as PROTECT & SERVE'ers are ordered to get on those streets and rake in the cold cash.
Oh yeah, and of course the Times manages to mention Amadou Diallo, because what would a piece about the police be without that.
