Florida man fined for having concealed handgun on ferry

Way To Go, Einstein..

YARMOUTH A vacationer arriving here from Florida was arrested Thursday at the local ferry terminal for failing to report a concealed handgun.

David T. Morrow, 69, from Crystal Beach, Fla., was travelling with his wife in a pickup truck/camper aboard the Cat.

He pleaded guilty in Yarmouth provincial court less than two hours after the ship came in.

He was fined $1,000 under the Customs Act for failing to report the gun.

It’s up to immigration officials now to determine whether the couple will be allowed to remain in Canada, said Blair MacDonald, an investigator with the Canada Border Services Agency.

A loaded .38 special revolver was found in a cabinet above a sleeping area in the camper, after it was selected for a detailed search, he said.

The accused had been given opportunity to declare the gun, first when filling out a written declaration aboard the ferry and again when asked by a customs officer on shore, said Mr. MacDonald."

Sweet moses on a pogo, Dave but what were you thinking. Traveling to a foreign country and sneaking in a gun? Psst...Dave? CANADA HAS NO 2nd AMENDMENT. This could absolutely ruin it for others who have expertise in smuggling guns across the border, dammit, because now they'll be on the lookout for even smart folk who carry heat. "Found in a cabinet.."

Nice job at hiding the thing, Dave.
