"Mayor Bloomberg's national call to stop the flow of illegal guns isn't playing too well down in Dixie, where many of the firearms used to commit crimes in the city originate.

"Why don't he take care of his own problems first?" scoffed Marion Hammer, executive director of Unified Sportsmen of Florida, the Sunshine State's chapter of the National Rifle Association.
Hammer was responding to Bloomberg's pledge, made at his inaugural on Sunday, to bring his fight for stricter gun control "to Albany, to Washington and to every capital of every state that permits guns to flow freely across its borders."

NYPD officials say that 70% of guns used to commit crimes in the city in the first half of 2005 came from six states - Florida, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Pennsylvania, all of which have looser gun laws than New York.

Victims included NYPD Officer Dillon Stewart, who was gunned down by a 9-mm. Glock stolen in Florida and later used to shoot up a Brooklyn nightclub.

But Bloomberg can expect plenty of political flak once he ventures south of the Mason-Dixon line, Hammer and others said yesterday.

"If he wants to come to the state capital and lecture my legislature, his message is going to fall on deaf ears," Hammer said. "I think they'd stop him at the state line."
"This is all politically motivated," added Philip Van Cleave, president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. "He's trying to look like he's doing something, but he's not doing anything but pass the buck."

But Bloomberg yesterday showed no signs of backing down, expressing horror at how some bullets these days are marketed as "vest piercing."

"The last time I saw a deer wearing an armored vest was a long time ago," he said."

And he lied. It's a canard, an urban legend and something liberals drag out of the closet to scare the sheeple. Armor piercing handgun ammunition is as illegal as illegal can be, and the few special-forces/law enforcement types of such munitions are strictly accounted for. Mayor Mike HAD to have seen marketing aimed at the NYPD or perhaps even the bogus leftwing fakes that are seemingly everywhere. ANY decent hunting rifle can pierce ANY vest of your average cop on the street, and it's interesting to see his Dis-Honor switching from the evil guns to the evil ammunition when it suits him to fabricate something for his political agenda.

And believe the 70% of criminal guns used in half the activity coming from six states at your peril, too. They fudge the numbers as it suits them. Yes, a lot more guns are stolen from states that HAVE a lot more guns. It's akin to saying that 70% of the stolen automobiles used in drunk driving tragedies come from NYC and therefore cars from New York should be banned.

And instead of going after the criminals who steal then kill, politicians take the easy route and want to confiscate the properties of people who have broken no laws. It's called shooting fish in a barrel. Makes nifty headlines. And keeps the minorities voting for you.
