Ex-Georgia Cop Accidentally Shoots Wife Dead

GRIFFIN, Ga. — "Griffin police say a former Fulton County sheriff's major accidentally shot and killed his wife while unloading his gun.

Police say 54-year-old Riley Taylor was at a family function when the gun discharged Friday and the bullet struck his wife, 54-year-old Denise Taylor.

Griffin police spokesman Corporal Bryan Clanton says the woman was flown by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where she was pronounced dead.

Clanton says no criminal investigation will be done since the shooting was accidental."

And there you have it. No askew aspersions regarding his actions, just a shrug and an oh-well. Shit happens.

Don't you just hate when you're unloading your gun at a family function and it "goes-off" and kills someone?

Not to worry though. Just an 'accident'. I mean, don't we all point our guns at someone when unloading them.

PS

Check into the comments if you've a mind to. A relative of this killer saw fit to stop by and excuse the fact that the man pointed a loaded weapon at his wife then killed her with it.

Wasn't his fault. Not at all. Gun went off. Shit happens so let bygones be bygones.

He kills his wife and I'm the asshole.

Can't make this shit up.

In all the annals of firearm history, there are few accidental discharges. This was clearly negligence, as the weapon did not point itself. Good lesson for us all. At least the ones who are capable of learning that inanimate objects cannot wreck havoc without a human behind the trigger.

UPDATE

Even more fun in the comments. The more they protest the more we are permitted to enter the minds of the careless and understand how and why people are killed and injured from gun negligence, so this is important stuff, and a lesson for even the most experienced gunner.

"He didn't shoot her on purpose."

I cannot look into the mind of another, but lets take this at face value. Since members of law enforcement, exceptions excluded of course, can be quite careless with firearms none of the members of this tragic family should be expected to understand the basic principals of firearm safety.

Obviously.

LIVE, and learn, from the uneducated apologies for a man who killed his own wife because he pointed a gun barrel in her direction while it was loaded. This should give even the MOST careful of us pause. And remember, always remember:

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN UNLOADED GUN.

UPDATE PART 2

Well, not really much of an update.

The family members and friends of the killer continue to favor his being alive and negligent over his poor dead spouse. Said it before, and will continue to stand up for the lady who cannot speak for herself.

Criminal negligence warrants criminal charges.

Fact: A person is dead because someone did not know the proper way to clear a handgun. A 'professional' someone at that.

Fact: 99% of these cases are at least taken to a Grand Jury because regardless of the intent, adults must answer for their actions.

Anything else is sophistry and unworthy of discourse.
