Every day I tried to read both the Sidney Morning Herald, as well as The Australian. I've an affection for Australia that goes way back, and here's up to the minute (meaning it's merely several hours old) news on the Afghan imprisoned because he converted to Christianity:
"Members of the Afghan parliament condemned the release of a man who denied Islam, insisting on Wednesday he should not be allowed to leave the country, as Italy appeared ready to offer him asylum."
It was a given that WE couldn't offer him asylum, but would be working feverishly to assure that such was forthcoming. That's sort of how the real world works, and quite the concept.
