District to Seek Wireless Internet That Aids Poor

By Arshad MohammedWashington Post Staff Writer

"The D.C. government is preparing to ask companies to bid on building a wireless Internet system through much of the city, including free service for low-income residents.
But unlike other municipalities such as Philadelphia and San Francisco that have commissioned such networks city-wide, the District plans to give its contract to the company that goes furthest in serving low-income residents with free Web access and even free computers and training."

Hold on a moment while I try to digest this. Free internet. Free computers. Free training.

What in the simple fuck?

Sure there will be companies jumping on this "opportunity", but guess who foots the bill in the long term?

You got it. You. They'll take it as far as they can as far as tax write-offs go, but pc's and internet access, and TRAINING isn't going to be cheap and no one is in business to lose money. Well, except for the government.

They want private companies to be as incompetent, but no frickin way. The cost will be passed along, while they advertise how wonderful they are so as to draw admiration from the loons, but the loons don't have any cash. Just take a look at Zuniga's book sales. They live in mommy and daddy's basement fer chrissake.

That leaves...let's see...Hollywood? They could leech off them, but if any of those talentless multi-millionaires wanted to help the poor they'd offer low-income access to THEIR product. Which of course is something they'd NEVER do, so...

It'll be funny as a motherfucker once the entertainment media starts suing the disadvantaged once they get on the net in full force and begin stealing all sorts of shit.

Free computers. And a free ISP.

Has AOL gotten wind of this yet? Be a great excuse to tack on another surcharge.
