Less Than Torrid Start Under Torre...

Is true to course.

Same manager, same team, same awful spring. Mr. Laid Back only worries when it's August and it's time to catch the Red Sox, and wouldn't it be nice to send HIM a bill for all of the games he and is dreadful band of bloviated basketcases mailed in.

These games count. Fans deserve to get what they pay for, and in NY that means sweetheart stadium deals in the hundreds of millions, and admission fees to choke a horse. All last season I pleaded with the Yankees to sign Bobby Valentine to a consultants contract, ready to step in whenever the team fell on it's collective ass, and that plea is resurrected. These players can win it all, but this manager cannot. Not any more. Eventually, they'll try to turn it on come the end of the year when they're too tired to extract all of the talent that they wasted in the early months of the season. Without a take-charge Captain they simply must have a fiery manager, and don't be too surprised if Torre goes.

And please already, stop with the "It's too early to panic." Everyone said precisely that last year, and what ailed them then still ails them today.

I know for a fact that Jeter stops by now and then. He's got a relative in the Corps and yadda yadda, long story.

But this is what the Yanks do; they lollygag then awaken.
