Not Anymore
"Charging that the FDNY's application test was rigged against minorities, the Justice Department filed a bombshell discrimination lawsuit against the city yesterday that could radically change the face of the Fire Department.
The suit could lead to the retroactive hiring of hundreds of minority-group candidates who took the test as far back as 1999.
"The Fire Department may be forced to look very differently than it does today," said lawyer Shayana Kadidal of the Center for Constitutional Rights.
The FDNY's racial demographics have long been controversial: Only about 3% of approximately 11,000 firefighters are black and 4.5% are Hispanic, even though the two groups make up more than half the city's total population.
"It's time at last for the FDNY to be held accountable and it's time for a real significant change," said John Coombs, president of the Vulcan Society, an organization of black firefighters that filed the suit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission."
Poor NY. Now they can expect substandard fireman as well as second rate cops.NOW I finally understand why Gonzales was appointed Attorney General. The beaners get payback bigtime. From the most liberal city in the nation. For not being liberal enough because to do so would mean tragedy galore.
