Big Bore

Federal's 12 gauge 438 grain Barnes Expander exiting the muzzle at 1540 fps. Slug recovered from a 500+ lb black bear that recoiled from the impact and ran 30' before dropping. The Expanders have been doing well against thick skinned, big boned animals and are being recommended for relatively close-quartered hunting for all types of game. This particular slug measured nearly 1.5" across and retained all of it's original weight. Not to go Zumbo on everyone, but if it works on bear it'll work on hog and Federal claims even a rifled choke is good enough if all you've got is an otherwise smooth bore barrel.

Nat says that the best bear hunting in all of Florida can be had in nearby (45 minutes) Ocala, and if I survive the hog hunt it might be time for me to step up to some man-sized hunting. I thanked him then told him to go fuck himself.
