Stricter gun-control laws work in every other country on the planet, and they will work here. According to 2004 data from the Geneva-based Small Arms Survey, the United States accounts for 9.42 gun deaths for every 100,000 people. In England — which allows no firearms — the rate is a minuscule 0.30. And in Australia, which has banned only major assault weapons (in the wake of a similar tragedy), the rate is 1.71.
In an interview, Paul Helmke, a former Republican mayor and president of the Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence, pointed out that “the whole point of gun control laws is to make it harder for people who should not have guns to get them - and since the Brady Law began requiring background checks in 1994, 1.4 million people have been stopped from buying one.” He pointed out the blunt truth that “it is harder to get a job at McDonalds than it is to buy a handgun.”
I support the right of law-abiding citizens to bear arms. Just not ones that can kill 30 innocent victims in a matter of seconds."
Where does one begin. But of course we kill more bad guys here than the Euro's or Aussies do. We are ALLOWED to defend ourselves. To the best of my knowledge, the korean killer did not use clips at all. The latest information we have on this is that he DID use standard capacity magazines. He did not kill 30 people in seconds. The local police crouched outside for well over an hour during the second sequence, after having decided he was long gone after the first. The entire affair went on for hours, and instead of asking what in all hells they were doing while 76 year-old professors were taking the guy on barehanded, this obviously semi-literate soccer mom managed to get just about ALL of the facts wrong.
By the way, I'm still looking into the Constitution for mention of McDonalds but continue to draw a blank so a little help would be most appreciated. It simply MUST be there, or this babe wouldn't have compared a constitutional right with something so mundane. Right?
Thanks to The War on Guns.
