6 gun charges dropped against East LA College student

"Prosecutors dropped six of the most serious gun charges filed against a college student who allegedly posted pictures of unregistered assault weapons on his MySpace Web page.

Matthew Corwin, 23, the student body president at East Los Angeles College, was arrested April 30 for weapons violations and possession of stolen property after students and faculty members contacted authorities about the Web page showing Corwin in fatigues and holding weapons"

This is what drives my lawyer to drink. Any rat can call the law and say you committed a crime, and of course the law will agree before doing ANY checking whatsoever. Guilty until proven otherwise. Let us continue...

"Corwin was initially charged with five counts of unlawful assault-weapon sales, four counts of unlawful possession of assault weapons, two counts of possession of a deadly weapon and one count of receiving stolen property.

But six weapons charges were dropped Monday after federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives officials said some of the firearms recently found at Corwin's home in Monterey Park were legal."

DUH. And sorry it took over two weeks to come to so simple a conclusion.

"After further investigation by the (federal officials) they determined that the Browning machine .30-caliber was lawful. So we dismissed six counts today. The remaining six counts will be prosecuted," district attorney's office spokeswoman Jane Robison said.

Corwin lawyer Chuck Michel said a post-Virginia Tech environment led to his client's arrest.

"The only thing he is guilty of is indiscretion and bad timing," Michel said.

Corwin's bail was reduced Monday - from $365,000 to $120,000 - by a Superior Court judge in Alhambra."

The "counts" don't really seem to add up all that well, but it could be because a no-nothing idiot of a journalist simply passed along the information his masters told him to. And that's why its so bloody difficult to figure out what's really going on in cases like this. Particularly in Kommiefornia. And kudos to those "student and faculty members" for ratting on Corwin simply because he dared, dared I say, to post a picture of himself holding a ggggg-gun.
