Pegleg Stolen at Australia Beach

Former Australian Paralympic athlete Brendan Burkett is asking the public for help in finding his spare pegleg, stolen from a Sunshine Coast beach where he was vacationing with his family, according to the Australian Associated Press, or AAP.

The champion swimmer and multiple-medalist said he was camping at the Noosa River Caravan Park when the prosthetic leg was stolen.

"Two o'clock this morning we heard a fair bit of rattling in the boat, and these two blokes got in there," Burkett told the AAP. "We had fishing gear and surf boards in there and they took the pegleg, my waterproof leg."

Burkett said the leg, which costs thousands of dollars, will take months to replace.

"The worst thing is that it takes three to four months to make a new one, and it's just the inconvenience, you can't do anything in the water," he told AAP.

Burkett holds several World Records in Paralympic swimming. He retired from the sport at the 2000 Sydney Games."

As we speak, some students on break are admiring their new frat-hall wall hanging and high-fiving one another to beat the band.
