NEW YORK — "Police and a neighbor say an errant bullet blew through a fifth-floor Brooklyn apartment window and ripped into the arm of a 9-year-old girl.
The girl is hospitalized in stable condition, and police are investigating whether the bullet stemmed from gunfire that killed a 27-year-old man about two blocks away around the same time Friday afternoon. No arrests have been made in the shootings, which happened in the Brownsville neighborhood.
After the girl's hysterical mother banged on her door, neighbor Makota Belton rushed over to help the wounded child. Belton says the girl held up well, but was in shock."
If ever there was a city in need of a fancy new prison or two, NY is the one.
But instead of incarcerating society's detritus, back-on-the-street "rehabilitation" programs remain all the rage, and depending upon who you listen to, up to 80% of the violent crime is committed by repeat offenders. They usually start small with penny-ante thuggery whilst learning the system then graduate to full frontal murderous intent upon seeing how easy it is to pwn "the man".
Proof of the pudding is in Bloomberg and his cronies blaming the tools of the trade while allowing killers to get better at what they already do best.
