Tempest Tossed Crescent...

Here's something of a coinkydink, as that is really all it can be called. I know, I know, how can you expect to rouse interest, incite web-riots, and make the rubes step up and take notice if you don't take your turn as a barker for the yak woman. Maybe some day they'll turn me to the darkside, but not today.

lgf: Flight 93 Outrage

Is this a coincidence, an example of amazing cluelessness, or something more deliberate?

The planned Flight 93 memorial in Pennsylvania resembles a giant Islamic red crescent.

Zombie has more: Flight 93 Memorial Project.

UPDATE at 9/9/05 7:44:53 am:
Note the small grove of trees in exactly the same position as the star in the Islamic star and crescent.
UPDATE at 9/9/05 8:26:01 am:

The choice of a red crescent was indeed deliberate; the memorial is titled “Crescent of Embrace.”

Yep, sure looks like a red crescent. I'm not sure if banning all things resembling what could be construed as an ode to Islam is what we're all about, but I will admit that if the designers at Paul Murdoch Architects didn't realize how touchy a topic is, well then perhaps they should apply for a position at FEMA, as it's my understanding there are job openings available. Is it a plot? Not a terribly smart thing to do, and a stretch requiring prodigious leaps of the imagination to classify this as the Purloined Momument Of Embrace. Sure, I'll grant you that there are still people on third rock that DON'T know about the new media in town, but even the dumbest of the dumb have to understand the scrutiny such a monument would be subjected to.

So what's the rumpus? Hiding an insult in plain sight, or somebody's idea of a cool design that somebody else doesn't like?
