Fancy Shooting

[DownsClown - speedshooter.wmv]

Jerry Miculek doing the El Presidente.

El Presidente was created by Jeff Cooper. Three targets, a foot apart, at 30 feet. The scoring-zone of the target is 6" by 11".

2 shots per target, reload, then do it again.

Miculek does it with a revolver.

2.99 seconds.

He is the worlds fastest man with a wheel gun. If someone were to make a Western featuring a hero shooting this fast, the critics would complain about how unrealistic it was.

El Presidente shooting is still somewhat popular, with top of the line gunslingers doing it in 5 seconds or a tick under. Using semi-automatics, of course, and unlike the "old days", the loads are quite light and the guns are quite tricked. Back when I was single and could flit off whenever I so chose, I did one or two of these insane competitions. Never cracked under 6 seconds, and I practiced it a bit. Good day of practice was 6 and a half or so, best time ever was something like 6.11. Stock Glock 17 using hardball from Wal-Mart.

Now, with a competition trigger and lightweight recoil springs and shooting low-recoil ammunition...

I'd still suck.
