The Calm

Bench Memos on National Review Online

Calm Before the Storm[Kathryn Jean Lopez 11/08 05:48 PM]
Anyone else uncomfortable with the relative calm right now re the Alito nomination? An unhinged commercial here and there, sure. A nutty direct-mail fundraising effort in your inbox...but right now, relatively calm, considering.

No, Kathryn. It's generally referred to as saving your ammunition until needed. The recent elections, the revolution in France, and the Libby indictment have conspired to divert the country's atention, and trying to pry into the American psyche during these distractions would be a waste of time and money.

The true predator waits his chance and pounces when the prey is most vulnerable. We'll get through the holiday season...another reason NOT to promote negativity as people will be getting into the fun spirit of things and would pay less attention to a downer...and once the season is past the kooks and crazies and flubadubs will gleefully begin attacking Sammy in full force.

Now, I know how boring it must be to run a feature on National Review entitled Bench Memos, and have no grist for the mill, but what journalists would do is take this time to familiarize themselves with some of the gaps in the wire, the gaps that the loons will come pouring through in another few weeks or so.

Psst...and here's another clue; times like this aren't referred to as the calm before the storm for no good reason. Even moonbats learn to take a deep breath before jumping into the pool. Most of them do. Well okay, some.

And don't worry, you'll KNOW when charlie's in the wire. Prepare as they are.
