Of Mice And Men

New York Daily News - Sports - Mussina must give it a rest

OAKLAND - "As recently as a week ago, Mike Mussina was the rock of the Yankees' starting rotation. Now, his season might be over.

The Yanks and Mussina downplayed that scenario yesterday while discussing the right-hander's ailing elbow, but no one could rule it out. Mussina traveled to Los Angeles early yesterday to have the elbow examined by specialist Lewis Yocum, and after conducting an MRI and X-rays, the doctor confirmed that Mussina has inflammation that is likely due to tendinitis."
"I'm not discouraged," he said. "You have to deal with things sometimes. This is one of those situations. . . . I'm not having surgery and I'm not getting a (cortisone) shot."

The dreaded cortisone...gasp...SHOT. For you or I, or any adult on the face of mother earth, were someone to offer $8 million dollars a year to take on a summer job...no heavy lifting and it's a once-every-5-days gig...it'd be like, where do I sign. Oh, and an injection once every 6 to 8 weeks is something that might be necessary.

Not today's ballplayer, not by a long shot. In all probability, Mike Mussina, AKA Moose, would begin feeling relief as soon as the cortisone...a steroid by the way...was injected, and might not even miss a pitching turn. But the Moose is just a Mouse so that's that.

When did athletes become so pampered that a tiny needle drove them to distraction? Is it the big bucks, the media attention, the adoration from the public that so lowers a mans testosterone level he begins to feel pain long before your average run of the mill street sweeper? A healthy human male manufacturers nearly 3 times the pain killing hormones of a healthy human female...was a necessary thing for survival don't'cha know. Those who sobbed from a lil cut from a rebounding spear, or were driven to distraction because the boar's tusk nicked a knee, well those fella's were just left where they fell, or became the village idiot, ostracized from the cave crowd and certainly not permitted to pass such genes down to create another generation of weeping willies. The gents with the most big-boy-juices felt less pain, learned to live with what injury they did feel and were highly prized.

Quite the opposite now, isn't it. Squeaky wheels don't just get the grease, they get the babes, the bucks and the glory because it's look-at-ME time on 3rd rock, the age of the phony gangsta, the exhibitionist, and the mommy come help me.

So what do we do with the ones who still suck it up and go about their business? Why, we march 'em off to war so the chances of them passing along the big-boy-juice is greatly reduced, and if an enemy doesn't kill them our kiss-the-boo-boo million mommie mentality kills their spirit.

And since this rant is all about the human spirit I won't mention how virtually EVERY Yankee starting pitcher, along with MOST of the relief corps, has come down with similar ailments. Way to keep the fell'as healthy, Joe.

If It Was San Francisco Pizza Then Extraordinarily-Bad-Taste Could Have Been The Reason...

Man Fired for Eating Pizza Wins Contest

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A computer engineer who lost his job because he ate two pieces of pepperoni pizza left over from a company meeting has been named the winner of an offbeat Internet contest that solicited stories about outrageous firings. A panel of Silicon Valley judges assembled by Simply Hired, a Mountain View startup that sponsored the contest, picked Jim Garrison's strange tale from more than 1,000 entries submitted during the past month.
The reward: a free Caribbean cruise that will include passengers famously fired by Donald Trump on his popular television show, "The Apprentice."

Garrison, 39, prevailed over some tough competition.

The runners-up included these bizarre stories: a furniture mover who got fired after he and a co-worker were caught fencing with some adult sex toys that they found in a customer's bedroom; a worker who misunderstood a manager's instructions to send some sensitive data to microfilm and e-mailed it to a "Michael Finn" instead; and a warehouse worker found doing perverse things with the prosthetics made by his employer.

Yes. Before Mad-Cow became a media buzzword, the condition was called hoof and mouth disease. Hardly as catchy, and credit those whacky Brits who love anything that bears a reference to insanity.

Liberal Media Racist And Exploiting Blacks?

Here's the breakdown of the counties in Louisianna and Mississippi hardest hit from Katrina: It averages out to a 73.8% Caucasian, so why the focus on the pockets of poor blacks in New Orleans?

Parish or county White, Black

Jefferson, La. 69.8% 22.9%
Orleans, La. 28.1% 67.3%
Plaquemines, La. 69.8% 23.4%
St. Bernard, La. 88.3% 7.6%
St. Tammany, La. 87.0% 9.9%
Hancock, Miss. 90.2% 6.8%
Harrison, Miss. 73.1% 21.1%
Jackson, Miss. 75.4% 20.9%

Because N.O. was the bestl known city of the bunch, or the most likely to provide the better doom & gloom stories because the liberal media just LOVES showing poor black folk being beaten down by the MAN? Was New Orleans the hardest hit? Reports are coming in that other towns were literally wiped off the map, but, we won't know for sure, won't know the total death toll for a while, and in part and because the MSM isn't showing us much of anywhere else.

Whatever their justification, the media headed towards the ONLY area that was predominantly black, and then had the honest-to-goodness balls to ask why it was the blacks who were suffering the most.

Check out the list again. Look at the areas that were hardest hit. Now ask yourself why we've been focusing on New Orleans, if it IS NOT at least in part to play the race angle.
Also ask yourself why asswipes such Keith Olberman entertained the likes of Reverend Al Sharpton...taking a leave of absence from his new bitc, strike that, poor downtrodden mother, to focus on how awful Bush and the feds were in taking their time because it was really only a black thing.

FEMA broke ALL records in responding. Everywhere. Yes, there are pockets of resistance that have been difficult, and yes again, some these have been in N.O. where firefights between cops and thugs are still going on.

What about the other counties? Where are the poor white folk struggling through the same disaster? Why isn't Geraldo weeping over the remains of the vast majority of communities that were destroyed, the one's that weren't black? Almost 74% of the people effected, Geraldo, O'Reilly and Shep, and you havent stopped by once.

Not enough social commentary elsewhere? Nowhere near the drama? One thing's for certain...No journalism.

And Now A Word From Our Favorite Ranting Rot...

Gotta love it when the link itself get ya goin'

Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler » Blog Archive » Mayor Nagin, You Miserable Son of a Whore, Answer THIS:

"The still at large (for unknown reasons) corrupt, mass murdering fuckwit mayor of New Orleans Mogadishu who sat on his fucking hands for years refusing to divert graft money to protecting his own citizens is whining at the top of his lungs for buses to evacuate those of his citizens that he left to drown.

What buses, you callous, useless sack of stinking shit, simpering asshat?

You mean those buses, perhaps?

The buses that you just couldn’t be arsed to send to evacuate the poor people of New Orleans before the disaster that you created through your inaction happened?

Are those the buses you’re talking about, your murdering pig?

We’re sending buses across the country as fast as we possibly can to help clean up your mess and rescue the people you betrayed when you couldn’t be bothered to send the ones you already had a couple of blocks down the street before the disaster hit, yet YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO BITCH?

If you had an ounce of honor in your corrupt, incompetent body, you wouldn’t be busy blaming everybody else right now. You’d have long since written your farewell note, locked yourself in your study and blown your own brains out.

But then again, if you’d had even the most passing of familiarities with the concepts of honor and responsibility, we wouldn’t have a problem today, now would we?

You murdered every single one of those people, Nagin, and you will answer for it sooner or later, we can promise you that much.

If that asswipe doesn’t hang, justice is officially and irrevocably dead in this country, but it won’t be where he’s going once he’s dead."

Yep. If anyone can cut straight through to the heart of the matter it's the Rot. And Misha's also caught on to the fact that if Fox uprooted her from her permanent cabana by the sea in Aruba and is sending old Crook-Jaw'd Greta into the fray, then there's suffering going on to beat the band, but no real story to see here. Predictions? Three months from now and there she'll be, sitting inside the Super Dome talking to her "experts" about how any day now there's going to be a slew of guardsmen walking in with food and blankets but toilet #627 STILL isn't flushing every time and they ain't leaving until it does...

Greta isn't a news person, folks, she's where stories go to die, and once ole' CrookJaw arrives at the scene all pretense of reporting goes out the window as she flits from one bereaved mother to another prattling aimlessly with such piercing questions as "tell me what you're feeling inside, right now and if you were a house plant, would you feel well-tended, not so well tended, or is that your leaves dropping on my rug as we speak..."

In other words, a lawyer. Someone who is accustomed to sitting around doing nothing unless it's thinking of a thousand variations on the same ridiculous question.

Countries Offering Help...

Really don't know what lgf, and I'm sure other blogs as well are trying to prove by cutting and pasting an AP story that claims over 3 dozen countries are "pledging" to assist the US in recovering from Hurricane Katrina. Suddenly, the vile and hateful ASSociated Press is telling us the truth?

Seven days into this disaster wasn't the time to offer something that won't arrive for weeks and/or months, if ever, but I'll bite my tongue and settle back into a wait and see posture before going into full frontal rant.

Took them a week to even express their condolences, and I'm not so naive to think that real help is on the way anytime soon. Sweet mother of pearl, I'm glad I no longer check in with any blog from the wonkette-sure-is purdy-northern alliance. These guys are so wet behind the ears they'd have believed Hitler when he said the gas chambers were really showers.

PS: That's why this is one of the joints where you'll get the real scoop. No self-congratulatory, inbred hive think going on here, call the spade the spade the same way blogs did back when the whole magilla began. Web blogs are news sources and if one of THEM diddle off into the dark of night and buy into one lame ass thing or another, then they're fair game just like the MSM. And no, it's NOT intelligent design. Ask anybody.

PPS: Checked things out a bit and China has offered $100,000. That's not a typo, kids, that's one hundred thousand dollars, or about as much as they net a week from one factory full of slaves, strike that, garment workers, under employ to manufacture ragged clothings to Wal-Mart. You won't be finding any list of possible donees here, mainly because I've had a weak stomach lately and don't want to chunder all over my new pc. Plenty of other places who've decided to jump on the "all the world really loves us, they actually love us" bandwagon, but we'll hold off on tossing roses at Chirac or Gersoft until the cash actually rolls in. And by the way, we've already told the French that they can't send their leaking-nuclear fuels aircraft carrier, same as when they tried that scam back when we were first hitting Sadam. They desperately need for some of their pieces of junk to sink, and if they do take on enough water during a combat or humanitarian operation then it's off to the UN or Uncle-Sam, the insurance carriers for the world, asking for reparations. Sweet geez but just how dumb can these other guys really be.

The Quickest Response Possible From The Feds...Denigrated By The Usual Suspects

James S. Robbins on Iraq & Katrina on National Review Online

"So is the war in Iraq causing troop shortfalls for hurricane relief in New Orleans?

In a word, no.

A look at the numbers should dispel that notion. Take the Army for example. There are 1,012,000 soldiers on active duty, in the Reserves, or in the National Guard. Of them, 261,000 are deployed overseas in 120 countries. Iraq accounts for 103,000 soldiers, or 10.2 percent of the Army.

That’s all? Yes, 10.2 percent. That datum is significant in itself, a good one to keep handy the next time someone talks about how our forces are stretched too thin, our troops are at the breaking point, and so forth. If you add in Afghanistan (15,000) and the support troops in Kuwait (10,000) you still only have 12.6 percent.

So where are the rest? 751,000 (74.2 percent) are in the U.S. About half are active duty, and half Guard and Reserve. The Guard is the real issue of course — the Left wants you to believe that the country has been denuded of its citizen soldiers, and that Louisiana has suffered inordinately because Guardsmen and women who would have been available to be mobilized by the state to stop looting and aid in reconstruction are instead risking their lives in Iraq.

Not hardly. According to Lieutenant General H. Steven Blum, chief of the National Guard Bureau, 75 percent of the Army and Air National Guard are available nationwide. In addition, the federal government has agreed since the conflict in Iraq started not to mobilize more than 50 percent of Guard assets in any given state, in order to leave sufficient resources for governors to respond to emergencies.

In Louisiana only about a third of Guard personnel are deployed, and they will be returning in about a week as part of their normal rotation. The Mississippi Guard has 40 percent overseas. But Louisiana and Mississippi are not alone in this effort — under terms of Emergency Management Assistance Compacts (EMACs) between the states, Guard personnel are heading to the area from West Virginia, D.C., New Mexico, Utah, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Alabama, Washington, Indiana, Georgia, Kentucky, and Michigan. Thousands have already arrived, and more will over the next day or so.

The New York Times has called the military response “a costly game of catch up.” Catching up compared to what, one wonders. National Guard units were mobilized immediately; 7,500 troops from four states were on the ground within 24 hours of Katrina — a commendable response given the disruptions to the transportation infrastructure. The DOD response is well ahead of the 1992 Hurricane Andrew timetable. Back then, the support request took nine days to crawl through the bureaucracy.

The reaction this time was less than three days officially, and DOD had been pre-staging assets in anticipation of the aid request from the moment Katrina hit. DOD cannot act independently of course; the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is the lead agency. Requests for assistance have to be routed from local officials through FEMA to U.S. Northern Command and then to the necessary components. In practice, this means state officials have to assess damage and determine relief requirements; FEMA has to come up with a plan for integrating the military into the overall effort; DOD has to begin to pack and move the appropriate materiel, and deploy sufficient forces. This has all largely been or is being accomplished. Seven thousand mostly Navy and other specialized assets are currently in the area directly supporting hurricane relief, and a much larger number of other forces are en route. The process has been functioning remarkably smoothly under the circumstances.

It is hard to understand what more should, or realistically could have been done up to this point. A disaster of this magnitude is certain to be politicized, but it seems early in the game to be assessing blame for a response effort that has only been underway a few days in a crisis that is still developing; particularly such a rapid response. Moreover, it is simply not plausible to use the situation to critique the force structure in Iraq. The Guard is demonstrating that it can fulfill both its state and federal responsibilities, as it was designed and intended to do. Of course, it is impossible to win in these situations; critics will always find a way. A year ago after Hurricane Charley, the president was accused of responding too quickly, allegedly to curry favor with Florida voters. Back then only a few fringe characters tried to make the Iraq/Guard connection. It is a shame that the Times has drifted in their direction.

Not only the Times, James, but any entity seeking to prove a political point. Watching O'Reilly as I enter these words, and there he, is talking to, of all people, Geraldo, about how long everything seems to be taking, and in this time of instantaneous this and super fast that, these clueless wonders seem to believe that the laws of physics can be cast aside whenever they personally see someone suffering.

The people at various shelters want to go somewhere else, and the policeman Rivera - Gerry Rivers as we knew him back in the good old days- is talking to, is adamant that he NEEDS BUSES NOW. This is great theater but horrid news reporting. Yes, the Governess of LA. SHOULD have assured that more state aid was closer to the situation, but she doesn't drive buses or fly helicopters or build levees. She WILL know who does and why their initial resposes were lagging, or public opnion will have her for lunch.

Laurence Guydot..."Civil Rights activist" extraordinaire is talking with O'Reilly now, telling him in no uncertain terms that calling the blacks of New Orleans "refugees", is racist. Can't make this stuff up.

"I had no idea how deeply my hate for that man ran. My lack of an interaction, with a * supporter is still haunting me a couple of hours later.

I was on my home and was on the ramp getting off the highway. I saw a mini-van on the side of the road. There was a lady standing next to the van and in her arms she held her child. I can only assume her mini-van had broken down. I don’t know, perhaps with so many gad stations being out of gas, she had also run out. I slowed down and started to pull over to offer her a ride. At the very last second I noticed a “W” sticker on the back of her vehicle and I sped up and drove off..."

This particular cretin's abject stupidity and lack of humanity aside, I've always preached for an anti-bumpersticker mentality to take hold, especially for vehicles driven by women and their children. Stickers tell FAR too much about you and make it easier for the bad guys, or asshole gals such as the wasting-our-oxygen meatbag who wrote the above comment, to do harm.

Simian Cells Sate Scientists...

From Bob Parks, University of Marlyand:
THE CHIMP: COMPLETE GENETIC MAP CONFIRMS DARWIN'S THEORY.

Scientists at MIT and Washington University, St. Louis, announcedWednesday that they have determined the precise order of the 3billion bits of genetic code needed to make a chimpanzee. Thereis only a 1 percent difference from the human genetic code. Butfor that 1 percent, chimpanzees would have a seat in the UN. Robert Waterston, who led the Washington University team, wasquoted in yesterday's Washington Post saying, "I can't imagineDarwin hoping for a stronger confirmation of his ideas."

Doesn't mean a hill of beans to the undereducated, Bob. Talk till you're blue in the face but disblieving in something one's parents began drilling into them since birth isn't changing anytime soon. Yeah yeah, I know that mankind is poorly served by the ID nonsense...thousands of years of abject misery because the species refused to allow science a chance to help...but we all begin sounding overly sensitive on the subject, and hold your horses, hoss, I KNOW how important the quality of human life is and that science has fought for millennia to improve upon it, but the time has come to tone it down a tad. Just keep asking them for proof, or studies, or an examination of their methodology, do it with that voice we use to ask little kids if they need to go potty, and eventually they'll tire of being so very confused and go on to something else. Good idea might be to start that angels dancing on the head of a pin deal again...

Gonzales And Bad Advice...Perfect Together

OpinionJournal - The Next Justice

Nothing Personal Attorney General Gonzales offers Judge Roberts some bad advice.

BY MANUEL MIRANDA Friday, September 2, 2005 12:01 a.m. EDT

My invitation to join the "murder boards," the name given to the grueling mock panels that are helping John Roberts practice for his hearings next week, was lost in the mail, so I thought I would give the nominee my advice in this column.

• Eat. You look as if you've lost more than 10 pounds. No doubt that different people react in different ways to wondering all day what they might have written 20 years ago, but please don't starve yourself.
• Don't appear to change your answer in midhearing. The Democrats will use your understandable desire not to be misunderstood as an opportunity for gotcha, and they will question your credibility and integrity.
• Time your sense of humor and prepare your facial expressions to hide disgust just slightly. Do not be surprised if new or very old quips are thrown in your face to make you look like a Neanderthal.
• Don't take the advice of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

On Wednesday, USA Today reported, under the headline "Gonzales: Some Abortion Queries OK," that Mr. Gonzales thinks it would be "appropriate" for the Senate Judiciary Committee to ask Judge Roberts about his personal views on abortion.

I like the attorney general very much and am certain that he is capable on many matters, but professional experience tells me that careful thinking on the nominations issue is not one of them. After hubristic Senate Democrats, two men are most responsible for the recent years' obstruction on judicial nominees. One is Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, because of his weak-kneed chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee, and the other is Mr. Gonzales, for failing from the start to understand the politics of the issue and the contours of his power when he was White House counsel.

Mind you, John Roberts would win great admiration from me (and others) were he to repeat what Bill Pryor, now a judge on the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, said at his hearing: that Roe v. Wade was "an abomination in the law" that had cost the lives of millions of unborn children. The first part was Mr. Pryor's legal opinion, with which many thoughtful liberals agree--including Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who in 1985 called Roe a "gross intervention" by the court. The second part was an expression of Mr. Pryor's personal view on the sacredness of life."

Okay, okay, time-out. Great big forest over there fella, see it? Uhhuh, just to the left of them trees...

Firstly, Gonzales is the quintessential yes-man and if George W. Bush were still alive he'd be turning over in his grave at the contradictory words coming from his Attorney Buck Private...sorry, General doesn't suit this man at all.

From the get-go, he waffled on gun control, telling the committee what he thought they wanted to hear as opposed to his own feelings. This is pretty much the sort of guy that agrees with most anyone who puts a query to him in a level, reassuring voice, and here's hoping his staff remembers why the President selected him, because he's long forgotten. Can tell why W likes the guy, though. Probably a righteous dude to take on a camping trip, but sweet mother of pearl he's so afraid of displeasing someone that he pisses off pretty much everyone.

Buck Private Gonzales; A Man For All Moments. And psst...Miranda, not to worry, everybody but you knows this so it's cool.

60 Years After Japans Formal Surrender...And The Media Has Learned How To BE The Message

New York Post Online Edition: postopinion

September 2, 2005 -- "Sixty years ago today, Gen. Douglas MacArthur accepted Japan's surrender on the quarterdeck of USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.

World War II was over.

As America marks this anniversary, it again finds itself engaged in a conflict not of its asking, but nonetheless of crucial importance to its peace and security.

"Once again war came to our shores with a surprise attack that killed thousands in cold blood. Once again, we face determined enemies who follow a ruthless ideology that despises everything America stands for," President Bush said on Tuesday. "And once again, we will not rest until victory is America's and our freedom is secure."

The history books are filled to overflowing with debate on whether World War II was properly fought — strategically and tactically — but today there is no doubt whatsoever that it had to be fought.

Unfortunately, while the long-term Islamofascist threat to America is no less deadly than that posed by Axis expansionism, there is no national consensus on the need to win this time, too.
Part of the cause is the media.

If, for example, America's blundering North Africa campaign — a traumatic learning experience for U.S. arms — had been covered with the same gleeful malevolence that marks much of today's Iraq coverage, the country would have had no stomach for D-Day or for the blood-drenched Central Pacific campaign that defeated Japan.

And another part is the simple fact that terrorism — even state-sponsored terrorism — is fundamentally different than conventional warfare. Sometimes it's hard to identify the bad guys.
But, six decades ago, Americans of all political persuasions stood behind their troops and their policymakers. Today, malcontents bent on scoring political points attack not only the president, but work actively to undermine those doing the fighting.

Luckily, America has a president who understands, as he put it Tuesday, that "the most powerful weapon in the arsenal of democracy is the spirit of liberty." It is that spirit, taking hold in Iraq — where elections have been held and a constitution is being hashed out — that will ultimately bring freedom to that tortured nation.

Even then, for America anyway, the war won't be over. There perhaps will never be a V-T — Victory over Terrorism — Day.

That doesn't make the war itself optional."

Dutch Suspect to Be Freed in Aruba photo

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) - A judge on Thursday ordered the conditional release of a Dutch teenager in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, but he remains a suspect, his defense attorney said.

Happy to see that virtually ALL of the prognosticators...cough, slimeball lawyers...were dead wrong about this. The murdering rapist Urine van der Sloth goes free as a bird, and this after all of those supposed reports about other women rushing forth to brand him a sex-criminal. Not pleased to see Lurch Jr. back on the streets, just glad that my gut feeling was right all along and I never let the ambulance chasers cloud a simple issue as they rushed to audition to be added to the grieving family's payroll.

The fix was in from the get-go. His family has too much juice and the Dutch legal system stinks. End of story so turn the page and stop paying attention to the attorneys.

And What Would We Do Without Loony Fems...

FOXNews.com - Views - ifeminists - Gender Bias in Domestic Violence Treatment

"The oldest battered women's shelter in New England, established in 1975, is setting precedent and making many feminists nervous in the process.

Transition House not only launched a "gender-neutral" search for a new executive director but also appointed a man as its interim director. Transition House explains that it simply wants to hire the best person for the job, and interviewing men doubles the chance of success.

Feminists of my ilk, who judge individuals on merit rather than gender, are applauding. (Admittedly, a muttered "it's about time!" may also be heard.)

Feminists who believe that gender must be a deciding factor in who addresses domestic violence and how it should be addressed, are appalled. They view the very prospect of hiring a male director as violating the "mission" of the shelter movement: to assist battered women and children.

In short, the "women-only feminists" believe males should be precluded from major employment and entry at shelters. Indeed, women's shelters often deny entry to male children over 12-years-old. (The legality of doing so at tax-funded shelters is dubious, to say the least.)
Why should even male teenagers be excluded? In a protest letter to the Transition House Board, the feminist organization About Women explained that the shelter must be a space where "women could feel safe from male intrusion and could openly unburden themselves of the experiences of male violence they had undergone without fear of censure, criticism or inhibition by male presence."

This is similar to claiming that a white person who has been beaten by a black needs to be in a black-free environment because they have been battered not merely by a specific black person but by an entire race.

To carry the analogy one step farther, it is similar to demanding that blacks should not be employed or allowed on the premises of a whites-only shelter…even if those premises are tax-funded and, so, prohibited from discrimination."

If you're in the mood for a good chick-flick then catch Ralph Fiennes in The Constant Gardner. Am unaware as to how many sweet women are treated horribly by rotten, uncaring men, or as to the total number of terminal diseases they must brave, surrounded by weeping girlfriends who tell them how wonderful they are. Ralph Fiennes cries. A lot. For your basic low-brow action-adventure cartoon, there's:

Gene Test May Predict Cancer Spread

Nope. Sorry, but gene testing requires a strong foundation in the modern biological sciences and THEY are rooted in, gulp, the FACT of evolution and lean strongly towards the THEORY of natural selection, so we ain't a gonna stand for no monkey doctors fiddlin' with our innerds even if it CAN save us and millions of others.

Newspapers surprised at superpower 'humbled' by Hurricane Katrina

The Daily Mail newspaper echoed the same theme in its editorial entitled "The humbling of a superpower."

"Here is a superpower that can crush at will a tinpot dictatorship - but then becomes so bogged down in the grisly aftermath of war that it finds itself unable to respond to anything like adequately to the plight of tens of thousands of its own citizens engulfed by a natural calamity," it said.

So true. We've needed days to do what any tinpot dictatorship in the EU would have taken mere months to accomplish. And without shooting Brazlian electricians in the head for reading a newspaper in the tube, to boot.

Thanks for the help, guys. We'll remember that next time you come squealing that bad old Germany or the nasty Arabs have stolen your countries again.

What? That's It? No Mention Of the Trillions of dollars they still owe us? No reference to the muck-up they've made over the Iran nuke deal? Not a peep about us defeating the 4th largest army in the world in under 100 hours while their token assistance did little more than ferry supplies? The price of gasoline in Europe is what...$10 US a gallon and it'd be TWICE that if we didn't knock Soddam out of Kuwait? London gets bombed and our assistance is there in under 24 hours? Thousands upon thousands of US troops STILL in Europe to keep a peace they themselves have been powerless to bring about in over a century of trying? All this and more for them, and when WE could use a hand they mock us?

Sorry, but this is the Overnight-Lite version of Messenger and we don't do that.

Villager fights off lion

DAR ES SALAAM (Reuters) - A Tanzanian man survived a mauling by a lion which sprang at him from the bushes on his way to his farm, the local Guardian newspaper reported Thursday.
Omari Waziri Mtonga was with two relatives when the beast hauled him to the ground, clawing and biting him repeatedly in the coastal district of Kisarawe, the paper said.

"I somehow managed to muster the strength to battle with it," the 50-year-old said from his hospital bed after the attack last weekend. "I was in a state of shock, but kept fighting it with all my strength. I refused to lie down and be killed by the animal."

As his two companions screamed for help, the huge cat left its struggling prey on the ground and sank its teeth into the thigh of one of the other men before charging back into the forest.
The newspaper said villagers were on the hunt for the lion.

The east African country has a large population of wildlife including leopards and cheetahs, which periodically attack villagers or their livestock.

How charming. Trust me on this one, the guy did not fend off a fully grown male lion, and it's been a while since I've been in that neck of the woods but young adults who've strayed from a pride can and will lash out at passersby, from fear more than anything else. Good sized male is 450 pounds and while they won't attack a man who is carrying and knows how to use a spear, any attack on the average Joe results in Lion 1, Joe 0.

New Orleans Was Controlled Anarchy To Begin With...

New Orleans in Anarchy With Fights, Rapes

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans descended into anarchy Thursday as corpses lay abandoned in street medians, fights and fires broke out, cops turned in their badges and the governor declared war on looters who have made the city a menacing landscape of disorder and fear. "They have M-16s and they're...

They DO NOT Have M-16's unless they took them from the police or the military. It it illegal for Civilian firearms dealerships to sell automatic weapons, and what the clueless mayor is reporting to the clueless press is most likely the SEMI-automatic AR-15 version of this rifle. That's okay, even O'Reilly reported that thugs were roaming the streets with AK-47's...and he's got a staff of thousands vetting HIS stuff, and AK's are illegal as well. Knockoff weapons designed to LOOK like military weapons are an entirely different firearm...think of making a fiberglass replica of a Corvette and putting an old Volkswagon Beetle engine under the hood. Looks like it, ain't close to the performance, but is pleasing to the aficianado.

Those clarifications aside, we've said all along what should be done with looters, but if the authorities simply shoot these cretins the next deluge to inundate the city will be from the tide of bleeding heart moonbats arriving to form human shields for the killers.

Loony Stephy Called For Assassination Back In '97...

And please, I'll have no protestations that it's "illegal". There are only a scazillion ways a sitting President could have anotehr head of state off'd. Well, a scazillion minus one cuz I'm retired.

Stephanopoulos Urged Foreign Assassination

"Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson prompted a firestorm of media outrage on Tuesday after he suggested that the Bush administration should assassinate a foreign leader who posed a threat to the U.S. - in this case, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. But when senior Clinton advisor George Stephanopoulos publicly argued for the same kind of assassination policy in 1997, the press voiced no objection at all."

Fresh from his influential White House post (he made damned good coffee and brought Willie his cigars. Gunny), Stephanopoulos devoted an entire column in Newsweek to the topic of whether the U.S. should take out Saddam Hussein.

His headlined? "Why We Should Kill Saddam."

"Assassination may be Clinton's best option," the future "This Week" host urged. "If we can kill Saddam, we should."

I offer this not as an excuse for Puerile Pat's pontificate, there'll be no nyaa-nyaa-your guy-did-it-too going on here thank you very much, but as yet another example of how the little libby's stroke their own while condeming similar actions from one with less of a moonbattish portfolio. Then again, the offspring of a RodHam-Schumer coupling would be less a lefty than Stephy, but as usual I digress. So why the media frenzy over Patsy and the free ride for Stephy?

Gunny's Law:

It's okay when a coward appears to be acting tough, but it scares the begum out of them when a conservative proposes the same thing. We all KNEW that Stephy wouldn't sanction the killing of a mosquito if one flew into his childs bedroom carrying a "Let me suck you I'm carrying malaria" sign around it's neck. Robertson, on the other hand, would gladly pull the trigger on Joan of Arc if she threatened the US.

Loud noises have always frightened the sheeple unless it's the baaaaa'ing from one of their own.

Al-Reuters Gets In A Dig...

I often have a glance at James Taranto's Best of the Web, and if I've mentioned this before, then tough.

Seriously, what I dig up so often overlaps what "Best" features that at times it's which twin has the tony, and if you're too young to recall what that means, then tough again.

Of course, if I had a score of folks clicking away as help, lord only knows what Messenger would be like, but time for me to STFU and present something he, they, beat me to:

OpinionJournal - Best of the Web Today
"Under the subheadline MILESTONE LOOMS, Reuters engages in a pointless and ghoulish bit of calculation:

In the nearly 2-1/2 years of the [Iraq] war, the average death toll for U.S. troops has been 2.1 per day. If that pace continues, the U.S. death toll would reach 2,000 in late October. U.S. military deaths still remain far below the total and rate of the Vietnam War, in which 58,000 U.S. troops died.

Also if this pace continues, the Iraq death toll will top Vietnam's in just 73 years, and every American now alive will have been killed in Iraq by the year 389543."

Rape Charge Follows Marriage to a 14-Year-Old - New York Times

FALLS CITY, Neb- On Sunday evening, Matthew Koso tipped three ounces of formula into his 5-day-old daughter's mouth, then hoisted her atop his shoulder in hope of a burp. On Tuesday morning, he is scheduled to be arraigned on charges for which the newborn is the state's prime piece of evidence.

Mr. Koso is 22. The baby's mother, Crystal, is 14. He is charged with statutory rape, even though they were wed with their parents' blessing in May, crossing into Kansas because their own state prohibits marriages of people under 17.

The Nebraska attorney general accuses Mr. Koso of being a pedophile; they say it is true love.
"We don't want grown men having sex with young girls," said Jon Bruning, the attorney general. "We make a lot of choices for our children: we don't allow them to vote; we don't allow them to drink; we don't allow them to drive cars; we don't allow them to serve in wars at age 13, whether they want to or not; and we don't allow them to have sex with grown men."

So sex with half grown men, or short men or hobbits, that's okay, right? Sorry, just had to interupt the lunacy for a moment before I ruined something breakable.

But Mr. Koso's mother, Peggy, said she and her husband of 25 years were proud that their son did not disappear like so many deadbeat dads.

"He's not always lived up to his responsibilities, but this time he will," Ms. Koso said. "He could have left, but he didn't. He said, 'Mom, I love Crystal; I love this child.' "

Outrage over the case has rippled through this town of 4,800 about 100 miles from both Omaha and Kansas City, and to two state capitals. The governor of Kansas, Kathleen Sebelius, embarrassed by her state's status as one of the few allowing children as young as 12 to marry, has said she will propose a raise in the minimum age when the Legislature reconvenes in January.

Meanwhile, Mr. Bruning's office has been deluged with letters, the vast majority angrily urging that he leave the couple alone. One, from a woman named Patricia, said, "I'm sure your time can be better spent putting away real criminals."

Studies show that one in five teenagers have sex before they turn 15, and about 150,000 babies are born each year to a minor parent. In Nebraska, there were 25 births to mothers under 15 in 2002, the latest year for which statistics are available. In Kansas, five girls under 15 were married in 2003, three in 2002 and six in 2001.

In Nebraska, as in many other states, intercourse between someone who is 19 and someone younger than 16 is classified as statutory rape. It is illegal here even if the couple is married at the time.

But experts said it was extremely rare for a man to be prosecuted for statutory rape when he has married his minor partner.

Alright, enough. Nebraskan marrying Kansan is bad enough...Darwin or no Darwin those genes simply should not come close to one another let alone mix...but this guy IS a pedophile or has such tendencies, and requires a long, hard look, probably for some time to come, if not for the rest of his life.

The mitigating circumstance is of course his decision to marry, rather than perhaps forcing her to do what other girls are allowed to do at ANY age. No, Mr. Attorney General Bruning, we do NOT allow 13 year olds to vote, to drive a car, or to go to war, but YOUR state DOES allow them to have abortions, so cut the holier than thou routine before I puke all over your cheap shoes.

Yes a message DOES need to be sent. Men shouldn't be diddling with little kids even if Kansas says it's legal, and this detweiller should get some sort of house arrest, BUT to take him away from such a young family is too stupid even for a Nebraskan to contemplate. Work with that other bastion of sophistication, Kansas, and see if the laws can't be changed to reflect the 21st Century amongst civilized folks who aren't moslems, but save a place in your dimwitted heart for a couple that decided to keep a child.

All bets are off IF: The guy dumps her and the kid right after an easy sentence is handed down. Then he gets the book thrown at his chicken fucking ass.

What...you thought I was going to let the TIMES off the hook? Not a chance. THEY of course are all for changing the age of consent to reflect the "lifelong commitment" that marriage should be, and how a 12 year old shouldn't be forced by the government or the parents to such a binding tie. Then again, the SLIMES is all for killing kids in the womb so they can't seek the high road EITHER, and their pontifications are rendered useless, invalid, and relegated to a presentation conducted in the spirit of high hubris, because they think kids should be kids but have the right to kill their own kids.

Say Everyone, Do Me A Favor And Check YOUR Mail...

I can't seem to find any indications of the Europeans offering to lend us a hand with Hurricane relief, and since I KNOW they've been bending over backwards, especially the French, I must have missed something.

I mean, back when the Tsunami did all that damage they called us stingy bastards because our government only quadrupled THEIR contributions before our private sector did the same, so they gotta put their money where they usually keep a foot, right? Hell, every time the Germans got greedy we gave 'em back their countries, we kept the Soviets at Bay, and not a one of 'em has to spend squat on defense so the check's gotta be in tha mail. Right?

Right.

Too Slow...Too Fast...Who Do They Think They Are...My Old Girlfriends

Full Frontal Rant Time

Remembering last year when...

Hurricane Charlie smashed into Florida. President Bush was lambasted by the lefties for "responding too fast" and using the disaster for political reasons. Now the loonies say he's been too slow, and all it really proves is that instead of pitching in to HELP when America takes a body-blow, the treacherous slimedogs will boost their own agendas high atop whatever pile of bodies happens to be handy at the time.

I keep promising myself, no more Katrina, make this a disaster-free zone, something of a haven for anyone who doesn't want this shoved down their throats around the clock. And yes, for as much as I oft times preach taking a chill pill when faced with the ramblings of seditious left-wing creatures of the night, the effect of their blatherings is cumulative, something akin to a thousand mosquitos slipping into the netting one at a time, and the heart fights back when the head knows this is what they WANT, this is what gets them off.

Compromise then. Only interesting, pertinent stories and NOTHING for sensationalism. The internet is home to the anti-media and we simply can't be me-too'ing this thing for hits or clicks to our ads, or we become them.

Now, as to combatting the moonbattys...sigh...it seems inevitable for any sane adult of good will to fight the good fight against these bastards, but I'll try to keep the vitriol to a minimum. Be charming, debonair even. Show 'em what class and taste are.

Folding a C-note and slipping it into the nearest pinko's clenched little fist. Really interesting...now you just make sure I get enough towels.

New Meaning To The Jaws Of Death...

Anti-rape condom aims to stop attacks

KLEINMOND, South Africa (Reuters) - A South African inventor unveiled a new anti-rape female condom on Wednesday that hooks onto an attacker's penis and aims to cut one of the highest rates of sexual assault in the world.

"Nothing has ever been done to help a woman so that she does not get raped and I thought it was high time," Sonette Ehlers, 57, said of the "rapex," a device worn like a tampon that has sparked controversy in a country used to daily reports of violent crime.

Police statistics show more than 50,000 rapes are reported every year, while experts say the real figure could be four times that as they say most rapes of acquaintances or children are never reported.

Ehlers said the "rapex" hooks onto the rapist's skin, allowing the victim time to escape and helping to identify perpetrators.

Now THIS is one of the dumbest ideas to come along the pike in quite some time. Not to be confused with giving women the rights to PROTECT themselves, we find the European-type mindest that identifies women as helpless victims incapable of doing anything but scratching an attacker's thrust, thus assuring that not only will she be raped, but most likely severely beaten or outright killed by a wounded, vengeful rapist.

The "inventor" of this atrocity hasn't the slightest idea of how the human pain cycle is initiated, the level of pain the average man can tolerate when angered, nor the response such a device is certain to provoke. Why not implant a reusable shaped-charge of explosives designed to blow outward? Yeah, okay, that'd come close to, if not outright killing a rapist, and from there it's a small slippery slope to those ghastly firearms that'd assure ALL people are equal.

A woman inventor who's obviously never been around an aroused OR angry man. Sublime recipe for disaster.

Snippet from a WSJ report on the situation in New Orleans...

"...The evacuation of thousands of refugees from the squalid Superdome in downtown New Orleans was disrupted after someone fired shots at a military helicopter, and fights and arson fires in the area also made evacuation efforts difficult. After days of brazen looting and violence, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin ordered most of the city's police to abandon search-and-rescue efforts in order to stop the looting..."

First off, you can tell it isn't an AP or Reuters report because the language is far too good. Gone is the "stinking Superdome" to be replaced with "squalid", and that's a word I doubt the "writers" of either wire service are familiar with. To the meat of the matter, and I really detest adding to the mass media's sell-the-soap-powder approach to this disaster but the vast majority of them won't be telling you anything remotely resembling the truth.

So far the Federal response has been swift and professional. New Orleans itself is run by incompentant dolts without a clue, and this is going to take longer than it should because of their abject stupidity. From the don't-bother-me-I'm busy police, to the higher-ups, they've dragged their feet when time was of the essence.

The monsters who stayed behind to prey upon the wreckage should be summarily shot where they stand. ALL of these citizens were repeatedly warned, and of course you will NOT see the folks who stayed behind and did just fine, thank you. As I've said before, New Orleans is our 3rd world city and to have expected less from these animals was naive to say the least.

PS; The President is on and to some extent I have to agree that he looks tired, indecisive, and is clearly recovering from the shock of it all. Sorry, George, but we need you stronger than this and with better ideas than "don't buy gas if you don't need it." And yes, George, we KNOW you're all working hard...and please, being proud of your Dad and Willy-Boy who worked hard to "help the victims of the Tsunami relief" is either a Freudian slip or man, get some sleep.

PPS: To the lunatic moonbats who successfully protested nuclear power and more refineries and more oil exploration...lo, those 3 decades ago...Fuck you. And thanks for the memories.

"Terrific-Danger" Indeed, But To What? The English Language?

Somewhat longwinded so accept my apology. Funny stuff though.

Andrew C. McCarthy on Media on National Review Online

Let’s Prosecute Rick Sterling

Soliciting an assault has no place in the “marketplace of ideas.”

We can stipulate that Rick Sterling is a moron. That's no defense.

Sterling, a UC-Berkeley engineer and self-described "Bay Area activist," is one of those sensitive, caring, enlightened hard-Lefties who thinks it's worth deliberating whether world peace might be imposed by ... murdering conservative American public officials. He is evidently incensed that nothing has been done about the inane Pat Robertson's widely condemned suggestion that Sterling's beloved strongman Hugo Chavez ("the democratically elected President of Venezuela") might be targeted for assassination. So, in response, he has penned a disgusting essay, in the equally execrable Daily Californian, entitled "Let's Pie Paul Wolfowitz."

Sterling comes out of the box with this: "If Paul Wolfowitz thinks his enemies are trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it. This man is a terrific danger. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability." He goes on ever-so-thoughtfully to consider murdering Wolfowitz because — get this — the former deputy Defense secretary has "undermined international peace and security" (among other offenses against the Novus Ordo Sterlorum). Sterling reluctantly rejects this option, though, because he is against capital punishment.

Option Two, "[a] good old-fashioned knee-capping of Paul Wolfowitz," is also contemplated but finally dismissed because, like the homicide proposal, it would unleash repression against good people like Sterling who oppose the current administration.

So what to do? Sterling urges:

[H]ow about this: a good old-fashioned pie or tomato in the face? If one can call for the assassination of someone with impunity, what risk is there in calling for the pie-ing of someone? So let it be said: "If Paul Wolfowitz thinks someone is out to pie him, I think we really ought to do it. This man is a terrific danger. We have the ability to pie him and I think the time has come to exercise that ability."

For good measure, Sterling also vaults United Nations Ambassador John Bolton into the mix. After all, "He is part and parcel of the Wolfowitz gang that has hijacked U.S. foreign policy, destroyed so much and killed so many innocent or well-meaning people. A pie in the face — hopefully well-publicized — would underscore the truth that he does not represent the best of America ... only the worst."

My suggestion: Let's show Sterling the best of America. Namely, the law — what Aquinas divined as the ordinance of reason without passion, and the arena in which civilized people conduct their discourse, even on matters that excite passionate disagreement.
Federal law makes it a felony to solicit or endeavor to persuade others to commit acts of violence if such acts would themselves be punishable under the U.S. penal code. (Title 18 U.S. Code, Section 373). In this instance, the code does criminalize violence and threats of violence against public officials. Specifically, it is a federal crime to "forcibly assault[] or intimidate[]" current and former federal officers "on account of the performance of official duties" during their terms in office.
Obviously, both Wolfowitz and Bolton qualify as federal officers (Title 18 U.S. Code, Sections 111 and 1114). Soliciting assaults on them — whether assassination attempts, knee-capping or pelting them with food — is a crime. It is not a mere expression of opinion or dissent. It is not First Amendment protected expression. It is a way people get killed or injured for simply doing their jobs. Forbidding it is how we separate ourselves from rule by mob.

This isn't about politics. It's about right and wrong. It's about what kind of country we are. And it's a line that couldn't be brighter.
Pat Robertson's bluster is not a greenlight for sociopaths just looking for an excuse to make mayhem. The Justice Department ought to be seeking Sterling's indictment. Forthwith."

Okay, done laughing so I'll add a word or two. "He (Bolton) is part and parcel of the Wolfowitz gang that has hijacked U.S. foreign policy, destroyed so much and killed so many innocent or well-meaning people." ??

And who in blue blazes would these innocent and well meaning people be, pray tell? Moslem Cult-Koranimals? Did Ambassador Bolton stealthfully remove a Beware-Of-Grizzly's sign on a PETA-favored hiking trail? Has his insistance upon enforcing the rules of common decency caused unscrupulous UN oil-for-fooders to commit mass suicide, or even worse, demanded that they be excluded from the due process of diplomatic immunity and, gasp, pay their parking tickets?

Perhaps we'll never know, it IS after all part of a lefty's dream, and they do so love tossing their pies, but sad to say don't have a man among them strong or accurate enough to have one land. And nah, I don't want to see Sterling prosecuted. It might cause the rest of them to shut up, and sorry but I really enjoy the comedy.

Yeah, But How Do I Know You Won't Just Give It Back To The Next Displaced Arab Who Passes By...

Ann Coulter Wants Teddy To Come Clean

Welcome to AnnCoulter.com

"Sen. Teddy Kennedy has demanded that the Bush administration waive attorney-client privilege and release internal memos John Roberts worked on while in the solicitor general's office 15 years ago, all of which were supposed to be held in the deepest confidence. Apparently, Kennedy thinks public officials have no right to keep even their attorney-client communications secret.

This surprised me because the senator is such a strong advocate of the (nonexistent) "right to privacy." And not just in the way most drunken, Spanish quiz-cheating, no-pants-wearing public reprobates generally cherish their own personal right to privacy. I mean privacy in the abstract. I know as much about the "right to privacy" as I know about any other made-up, nonexistent right, but I would have thought that any "right to privacy" would protect confidential attorney-client conversations at least as much as, say, abortions in public buildings. But I'll have to defer to the expert.

Consequently, applying the principle even-handedly to members of the executive branch as well as the legislative branch, I demand that Kennedy immediately waive all attorney-client privilege relating to his communications with his lawyer after he drove Mary Jo Kopechne off the bridge at Chappaquiddick.

It's time to clear up, once and for all, the many questions that have swirled around Kennedy since Chappaquiddick. Oops — "swirled" may have been a poor choice of words there. How about "floated"? Nope. "Surfaced"? Oooh — even worse, in terms of irony. "Come to light"?

OK, now I'm just being obtuse. "Beset"? Yes, that's better. Youth is no defense. John Roberts was 26 years old when he wrote the documents that Kennedy demands on behalf of the Senate. Kennedy was 36 when he drove Mary Jo Kopechne off a bridge. If the Senate needs to know what Roberts thought about the law at age 26, then the Senate certainly needs to know what Kennedy thought about the law at age 36, when he drowned a girl and then spent the rest of the evening concocting an alibi instead of calling the police.

This isn't a "rehash" of Chappaquiddick; it's never been hashed. The Senate needs to know whether Kennedy was guilty of manslaughter. How else can the Senate be expected to carry out its constitutional duty to expel Kennedy unless Kennedy makes these key documents available? We'll pick them up in the same van we send to collect John Kerry's military records and Bill Clinton's medical records. While we wait, here's my guess as to what those attorney-client conversations sounded like, based on the facts in Leo Damore's book "Senatorial Privilege: The Chappaquiddick Cover-Up":

Interview with client Teddy Kennedy, July 19, 1969:

Teddy: May I approach the bench?

Lawyer: It's not a bench, Teddy. It's my desk. And no, you can't have another Chivas Regal.

Teddy: (Hiccup) Lawyer: Let's start at the beginning. Teddy: I'm going to say you were driving.

Lawyer: No, you are not saying I was driving.

Teddy: OK, someone in your family was driving.

Lawyer: They weren't even in Massachusetts that week. Can we move on? Why didn't you call the police after the accident, Teddy?

Teddy: I had to protect my political career, obviously. But this wasn't just about me! I was thinking about future drunk, philandering U.S. senators who may or may not have just drowned some chick they met at a party.

Lawyer: But what about Mary Jo —

Teddy: Yes, precisely! How would it look if I, a United States senator, were driving off to a secluded beach at midnight with a beautiful, nubile female after a private party? How would that look?

Lawyer: But Mary Jo was still alive for two hours —

Teddy: Did I mention my wife was pregnant? You think I should have reported the accident now, Mr. Smartypants?

Lawyer: She was trapped in that car, struggling to breathe!

Teddy: Do you know that two of my brothers were assassinated?

Lawyer: She was still alive! You could have saved her!

Teddy: Yeah, and say goodbye to my presidential ambitions. There was the future of the country to consider — as well as the future of the Chivas Regal company and all their employees. I am a Kennedy. I have a divine right to the presidency. I had to put that ahead of my lawyer's conscience. Anyway, Mary Jo was driving.

Lawyer: Teddy, we can't say Mary Jo was driving.

Teddy: What if some phony witness claimed that the driver stopped to ask for directions. Wouldn't that prove it was a woman driving?

Lawyer: But what about the witnesses?

Teddy: We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Hey, what's so funny? Did I just say something funny?

The Sky Is Falling And George Won't Admit It...

This is hilarious. A Slimes editorial bemoaning the lack of leadership coming from the White House, or ANY editorial from these have-to-be-read-to-be-believed lunatics, is in fact a cunning concoction that when held to a mirror can be read by Martians fluent in ancient Venusian dialects.

I mean, what else could better explain these detweillers? Problem is, they're trying to abduct ALL of us aboard the flying saucer from Leftyville.

Waiting for a Leader - New York Times

"George W. Bush gave one of the worst speeches of his life yesterday, especially given the level of national distress and the need for words of consolation and wisdom. In what seems to be a ritual in this administration, the president appeared a day later than he was needed. He then read an address of a quality more appropriate for an Arbor Day celebration: a long laundry list of pounds of ice, generators and blankets delivered to the stricken Gulf Coast. He advised the public that anybody who wanted to help should send cash, grinned, and promised that everything would work out in the end."

And what would a Slimes editorial be without:

"...But since this administration won't acknowledge that global warming exists, the chances of leadership seem minimal."

New York Post Online Edition: postopinion

September 1, 2005 -- "Anyone who thinks that two controversial museums proposed for Ground Zero can be trusted should look at a conference slated for Downtown next week, the fourth anniversary of 9/11.

"What Comes After: Cities, Art + Recovery" bills itself as "An International Summit" meant "to honor the 60th anniversary of the United Nations."

Behind the event are some of the same people shaping the future of Ground Zero and the museums — the International Freedom Center (IFC) and the Drawing Center.
The "international" theme is but a tipoff: Look at the Web posting (lmcc.net/recovery) by its sponsor, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC). One event, an exhibition called "A Knock at the Door," will challenge "the assumption that there is a clear line defining so-called 'threatening' or 'un-American' art."

How? Maybe with "art" by Chris Hackett. He's making a model of a bomb for the event. Yes, his past work literally exploded in his face; other featured "artists," too, have had run-ins with the law.

It gets worse: Honorees include the late writer Susan Sontag and professor Edward Said. Recall Sontag's view of 9/11? "This was not a 'cowardly' attack on 'civilization' or 'liberty' . . . but an attack . . . undertaken as a consequence of specific American alliances and actions."

That is, America got what it deserved."

It's becoming old news, liberal swine wishing to sate their unquenchable thirst for attention by leaping upon the slumped shoulders of the fallen, and if we the people do not keep our eyes upon these vermin, they'll do what vermin do, and civilization simply cannot allow such a travesty.

Unless they volunteer to hoist a shovel and actually do some work, let's keep these lunatics AWAY from Ground Zero. France is always looking for anti-American work, and I'm sure their vomit-inducing "art" will be received warmly by the snail eaters. Wherever, as long as it's not here.

by John Podhoretz

September 1, 2005 -- "FOR the second time in four years, the United States has been changed utterly by a previously unthinkable event. And just as was the case after 9/11, how this nation responds to the deluge that is sweeping New Orleans away will help define the nature of its character for decades..."

Since this is mostly a feel-good, let's pitch-in, gung ho article, we'll forgive Mr. Podhoretz for equating the intentional, brutal murder of innocent civilians with a hurricane that managed to breach poorly designed flood walls in a town that has reacted to this tragedy by consuming itself with lord of the flies, kill or be killed street thuggery. Louisianna is our embarassing 3rd world state and New Orleans is IT'S embarassing 3rd world city, but it IS ours and needs all the help it can get.

Also, it is far too mainstream media'ish to begin counting the dead long before we've determined how many, and by who's hand...the storm or the beasts from within. This incredibly ugly event is enough story by itself, stands on it's own legs, and doesn't require any this-way-to-see-the-bearded-lady-swallow-the midget. It's entirely my fault for expecting such a conservative bullwark to respond to such horror with the calmness begotten of conservative thinking, and my own over-reaction to hear-me, touch-me, feel me, should not reach their level of knee jerkishness, so I'll cool it while the cooling is good.

Mr. Podhoretz goes on to mention the usual suspects who've come forth to blame humanity in place of the storm, and since we ARE part of nature SOME of the blame MUST rest upon our shoulders. Not as a political football but as a reasonable investigation as to why the people of New Orleans were protected by levees the Romans would have dismissed as being inadequate 2000 years ago. Listening to the Army Corps of Engineers clucking their collective tongues at how sorry these levees were, is on one hand monday morning quarterbacking and on the other hand advice that needs to be heeded. More storms will hit New Orleans, and while it's terribly unfashionable to expect residents of a state to protect their own, let's toss a tourist-tax onto the visiting revellers of the future so that we never again have to watch videos of bandits stealing the night.

And Tastes Damn Good Too

Extra-virgin olive oil anti-inflammatory-scientists

Indeed. Scientists ARE discovering what Italians have known for centuries, and as a pat on the back to the eggheads, it's comforting to know that once they investigate and find that something works, they aren't hesitant at all to report these findings.

The problem in all of this has already been made readily apparent, as devote moslems are decrying this discovery as something not mentioned in the koran, and is indeed contrary to islamic teachings that proclaims regular virgins to be quite satisfactory as both reward and common maintenance to a mans over-all well being.

And How Do The People Feel About Evolution Vs. ID?

Poll: Public Divided on Evolution

But betcha they take their medicines, all but the truly insane at least, and will line up around the block for the next breakthrough from the modern biological sciences. Were a child to fall ill, how many of the naysayers would turn down procedures, based on the evolutionary foundation as all modern biological science is, that would save this child?

And know what, this is why O.J. was let off the hook. DNA had him dead to rights but half the country doesn't believe in it. BUT, let a loved one be harmed and have the authorities present the SAME evidence, then it's off to the needle for the bad guy as far as they are concerned.

We're something else.

Biologists: Male Chromosome Not In Danger Anytime Soon...

Study Says Male Chromosome Sticking Around - Yahoo! News

NEW YORK - The human Y chromosome — the DNA chunk that makes a man a man — has lost so many genes over evolutionary time that some scientists have suspected it might disappear in 10 million years. But a new study says it'll stick around.

Researchers found no sign of gene loss over the past 6 million years, suggesting the chromosome is "doing a pretty good job of maintaining itself," said researcher David Page of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research in Cambridge, Mass.

That agrees with prior mathematical calculations that suggested the rate of gene loss would slow as the chromosome evolved, Page and study co-authors note in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature.

Researchers compared the human and chimpanzee versions of this region. Humans and chimps have been evolving separately for about 6 million years, so scientists reasoned that the comparisons would reveal genes that have become disabled in one species or the other during that time.

They found five such genes on the chimp chromosome but none on the human chromosome, an imbalance Page called surprising.

"It looks like there has been little if any gene loss in our own species lineage in the last 6 million years," Page said.

Advocates of Intelligent Design, however, dismissed the biologists remarks concerning the evolution of anything, and were particularly disturbed by the mention of chimps.

When asked to provide their own explanation as to the apparent deterioration of genes in the Y chromosome, they submitted the following to various newswire services:

"Thousands of years ago it was dark. An invisible man who lives in the sky wanted light and made it so. Eventually he got lonely and started making people. One day he wanted to make a girl so he took a rib from a man. This could have damaged the male parts."

This Just In...

St. Cindy Of A Sissy has been quoted as saying that the reason for all of the death and destruction in New Orleans is due to the fact that the country's National Guard force has been so depleted that it can no longer adequately respond to such disasters.

Bush is the culprit. Bush is also to blame for not signing the Kyoto Accords that in 50 years or so might lower greenhouse gases a little. Americans use the most resources, and regardless of the fact that Americans DO the MOST work and contribute the MOST to the global economy, and in greater proportions to their actual consumption, Bush and America are to blame for Katrina, world hunger, the reluctance for Panda's to mate in captivity, and the sole reason the jerkwad Red Sox won the World Series last year.

Messenger wholeheartedly agrees. The Red Sox are jerkwads.
