"If it's appropriate, people have to defend themselves," said Sgt. Barbara Jones, Orlando police spokeswoman. "It's no different from us using a gun. It has to be justified, and we will, of course, investigate what happened."
As Soto pulled a 9 mm Keltec pistol from his right front pants pocket, he heard the robber's gunfire and felt a bullet graze his left shin, breaking the skin. Still standing, Soto fired two or three times before both robbers turned and ran, the report states.
"They tried to rob me and my homeboy," Soto said in a telephone interview Tuesday. "Man, put it like this: If I didn't have a concealed-weapons permit, it would have been a lot worse."
When the robbers fled, one stopped, turned and fired an unknown number of shots.
Soto shot back and fired two to three more times, and Amezaga drew his .357 Magnum Sig Sauer pistol and fired eight or nine times at the robbers. Crime-scene technicians later collected 15 shell casings ejected by both of the men's handguns, the report said..."

November 7, 2007 -- WASHINGTON - Bill Clinton found himself in an unusual and uncomfortable position yesterday - drawing intense fire from Democratic presidential candidates and a brushback from his wife's own campaign.
Barack Obama and Chris Dodd both took rare shots at the former president for claiming that critics of Hillary's stance on giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants were unfairly trying to "swift boat" her.
"To have the former president come out and suggest this is a form of swift boating . . . is way over the top in my view," said Dodd, a Connecticut senator.
Obama fumed: "I was pretty stunned by that statement."
It's the first time any Democratic candidates have attacked Bill Clinton, who is enormously popular among party members.
The rebukes came after Bill took a swipe at his wife's rivals. He likened recent Democratic attacks against his wife to a "scandalous" 2004 ad by John Kerry's fellow swift boat Vietnam veterans, questioning the candidate's military valor. He also compared the controversy to a 2002 ad that linked former Sen. Max Cleland, who lost three limbs in Vietnam, to Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden.
After recalling the earlier political attacks, which still set Democrats seething years later, Bill Clinton said, "I had the feeling that at the end of that last debate, we were about to get into cutesy land again."
In a stunning in-house slap at the former president, a senior adviser to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign said the former president's remarks were not part of campaign strategy and were considered counterproductive by her advisers.

Orlando Cricket Player Shoots Opponent During Match
ORLANDO, Fla. -- "An argument between several Indian men during a cricket match in Orlando led to an on-the-field shooting that seriously injured one of the players, according to police.
Orange County sheriff's deputies said they responded to a 911 call at 4:20 p.m. Saturday from a cricket match at Cyprus Grove Park and found Francis Singh, 36, shot in the abdomen.
Officers said Singh apparently became involved in a fight and threatened Devan Bascom, 37, with a cricket bat.Police said Bascom then pulled a small semi-automatic gun and fired at Singh, hitting him at least once.
"The shooter was defending himself from an attack with a cricket bat which is simlar (sic) to a baseball bat but it's flat," Orange County sheriff's Sgt. Spike Hopkins said. "For this man to bring a firearm to a sporting event is odd but then again, he has the right to do so. I absolutely promise to do a side-by-side test of this weapon versus the new Hi-Point .45 carbine as soon as Hi-Point gets off its lazy butt and starts making what they've been promising for years now. It prevents a murderer from ever murdering again. Murder drops by close to 40% once a state re-institutes capital punishment, and since most murderers kill more than one person, killing the murderer before he can kill again is a good thing. The numbers vary from killer to killer, but the conservative estimations offer that killing one killer can save up to 15 lives.
Since we've happened to kill about 17,000 killers a year over the past few years, that equals 255,000 people saved.
A year.
I won't get into the million or so baby's liberals have absolutely no compunction about killing every year, but trading 17,000 murderers for 255,000 innocent people seems like something even they would consider to be a good thing.
Lets just agree to agree that it would appear they hate baby's and really really love killers, black killers in particular.
Are these same blacks unfairly targeted for the death penalty?
Hardly.
Blacks commit about 54% of the murders, and account for about 38% of the executions. If anything, fewer blacks face the death penalty than non-blacks, and that is what should be addressed and not the ignominiously stupid liberal idea that killing killers is racist because so many blacks kill then need to be in turn killed for killing. I suppose we should stop killing them, and get on with the business of killing only whites for a while so as to make the numbers even more askew because liberals ARE dumb and need to be overwhelmed with proof before agreeing that reality holds sway over fantasy when it comes to serious stuff.
We could then return to executing the black killers and that would be easier to do than it is now, because liberals would have forgotten about capital punishment and by the time they got back to remembering, we'd be all caught up anyway.
And forget this nonsense the Jurassic Press wants you to buy into. States with fewer blacks have lower murder rates and therefore it doesn't matter all that much if they ban capital punishment because there are fewer killers around to begin with.

Scientists Reveal 'Cousin' Solar System
"Scientists announced on Tuesday the discovery of a fifth planet in a distant star system that now looks like a "cousin" to our own.
Known as 55 Cancri, the sun-like star harbors the most number of planets ever discovered outside our solar system.
"We now know that our sun and its family of planets is not unusual," study team member Geoffrey Marcy of the University of California, Berkeley told reporters in a teleconference. "Architecturally, this new planetary system is reminiscent of ours, albeit souped-up. All the planets in this new system are more massive by factors of 5 to 10."
Four of the planets had been previously detected, but the existence of the fifth planet took 18 years to confirm. It is about 45 times more massive than Earth and might be similar to Saturn in its composition and appearance.
55 Cancri is 41 light-years away in the direction of the constellation Cancer and is visible with binoculars. The system contains a clutch of four inner planets that are separated from an outer planet by a huge gap.
"We haven't found a twin of our solar system, because the four planets close to the star are all the size of Neptune or bigger," Marcy said."
First of all let me reiterate one of my fondest hopes. Childish but germane. Since being old enough to look into the skies and wonder, I've wished for contact with extraterrestrial life forms.
Enrico Fermi said it wasn't going to happen; our galaxy is reasonable young and others have had a 10 billion year head start so where ARE all of the intelligent life forms anyway.
The "cousin" solar system this story speaks of is far from a close relation, as virtually every planet they've so far found has been a gas giant, and life as we know it cannot thrive on a gas giant.
And while the spaces twixt and tween the big ones MIGHT contain earth-sized rocky worlds, not a one of them harbors a high-tech intelligence.
If they did, we'd have long since been listening to their radio and television broadcasts.
There may very well be rudimentary civilizations, but for sure there isn't one waving back at us, and that beggars an explanation, albeit an easy one.
We're unique. And alone. The chemical process that nurtured humankind hasn't happened in any of the older solar systems (see Fermi), so why should we expect to find it upon similar aged or younger ones.
Absence of proof is not proof of absence. Continued absence of proof DOES indicate a certain degree of rarity, and while discoveries such as this one are interesting they add to the negative side of the ledger regarding the possibilities of intelligent life forms other than what may be found upon Sol 3.
A FRIEND IN FRANCE?
NICOLAS Sarkozy, the recently elected leader of America's oldest ally - and possibly the most pro-U.S. president in France's history - begins his first official visit to the United States today, a country he's called the world's "greatest democracy."
During a two-day visit, Sarkozy will meet with President Bush, go to George Washington's home at Mount Vernon and - following in the footsteps of Marquis de Lafayette - address a joint session of Congress, becoming the eighth Frenchman to do so.

Compared to his anti-U.S. predecessor, Jacques Chirac, "Sarko the American" (as he's sometimes scornfully called at home) has been nothing less than a breath of fresh Alpine air for Franco-U.S. relations. Even so, he's no Gallic lapdog.
In his electoral victory speech, Sarkozy said: "I'd like to appeal to our American friends to say that they can count on our friendship." But, he added, "I would also like to say that friendship means accepting that your friends don't necessarily see eye to eye with you."
Fair enough. But Sarkozy's record so far inspires some confidence.
In his first major foreign-policy speech, he called Iran's development of nuclear weapons "unacceptable" - and agreed that keeping the military option on the table was a good idea. But, choosing his words carefully, Sarko didn't advocate attacking Iran.
He supports punitive economic sanctions against Iran, even increasing them, but has yet to require French firms, such as energy giants Total or Gaz de France, to divest themselves of their Iranian holdings.
While not endorsing Coalition policy on Iraq, Sarkozy seems to understand the importance of success there. In fact, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner visited Iraq in August - an act that would have been treasonous under Chirac.
Sarkozy's also pretty good on Afghanistan. He originally advocated removing French troops from the NATO mission, but he's now in favor of staying, although French forces largely don't operate in the most dangerous parts of the country..."
Following in the tiny footsteps of Jake Chirac would make anyone seem bigger than life, but for once in my life I can say that we've not a backstabbing enemy in France and whenever one loses a foe it is time to DARE dream of yet another Disneyworld in Europe.

Gun Criminal Gets Just Desserts
Albany -- "Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares announced Friday that Frederick Anderson, 24, of Albany, was sentenced to five years in prison and five years post release supervision.
On September 14, 2007, Anderson pled guilty to one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class “C” Armed Felony.
On September 3, 2006 shortly after 1 a.m. at Western Avenue and Hillcrest Avenue, Guilderland Police Officers performed a vehicle and traffic stop.
Upon interviewing the occupant of the vehicle, police observed a bulge under Anderson’s shirt. He was asked to exit the vehicle and when he was going to be patted down, he took off running. The officer indicated that he observed Anderson running with a firearm in his hand.
Subsequently, a search was done of his residence and a loaded .32 caliber handgun was recovered.
“Yet again, another young man is going to jail for the next five years for carrying a gun on the streets of Albany County. I hope every young man realizes that you don’t have to use, or even show off the gun, just having that weapon can land you in prison for a long time,” said Soares.
Must have been one helluva thin shirt for a .32 to be printing like that. Guy obviously didn't know that cops are attracted to bulges like a duck to water.
Kudos to Albany for taking this obviously violent offender off the streets. Imagine the gall of someone in this day and age trying to exercise a Constitutional right.

Al Queda Recruiting Children For Homicide Attacks
"Al-Qa'ida is deliberately "grooming" children and young people to carry out terror attacks in Britain, the head of MI5 warned today.
In his first public speech since becoming director-general in April, Jonathan Evans said the security service was facing "the most immediate and acute peacetime threat" in its 98-year history.
Addressing a Society of Editors Conference in Manchester, he said the number of individuals in Britain identified by MI5 as having links with terrorism had risen from 1,600 last year to at least 2,000.
And he said they suspected there could be a similar number again who they did not know about.
Mr Evans warned they were part of a "deliberate campaign" being waged against Britain by al-Qa'ida - which was extending its tentacles across the Middle East and Africa.
"Terrorist attacks we have seen against the UK are not simply random plots by disparate and fragmented groups," he said.
"The majority of these attacks, successful or otherwise, have taken place because al-Qa'ida has a clear determination to mount terrorist attacks against the United Kingdom.
"This remains the case today, and there is no sign of it reducing."
And they are doing precisely WHAT to combat this?

UK'S BAD MEDICINE
"November 5, 2007 -- Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign released a radio ad last week in which the candidate praised American health care for curing him of prostate cancer and wondered what might have happened to him under the socialized medicine practiced in the United Kingdom, where survival rates for that condition are far lower.
In the ad, now running in New Hampshire, Giuliani says: "I had prostate cancer five, six years ago. My chance of surviving prostate cancer - and thank God I was cured of it - in the United States: 82 percent. My chances of surviving prostate cancer in England: only 44 percent under socialized medicine." He drew those statistics from an article I wrote for the summer 2007 issue of City Journal.
Let me be very clear about why the Giuliani campaign is correct: The percentage of people diagnosed with prostate cancer who die from it is much higher in Britain than in the United States. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development reports on both the incidence of prostate cancer in member nations and the number of resultant deaths. According to OECD data published in 2000, 49 Britons per 100,000 were diagnosed with prostate cancer and 28 per 100,000 died of it.
This means that 57 percent of Britons diagnosed with prostate cancer died of it; consequently, just 43 percent survived. Economist John Goodman, in "Lives at Risk," arrives at precisely the same conclusion: "In the United States, slightly less than one in five people diagnosed with prostate cancer dies of the disease. In the United Kingdom, 57 percent die."

Nearly 3,500 Chinese Named 'Olympics'
BEIJING (AP) - The upcoming Beijing Olympics is more than just a point of pride for China—it's such an important part of the national consciousness that nearly 3,500 children have been named for the event, a newspaper reported Sunday.
Most of the 3,491 people with the name "Aoyun," meaning Olympics, were born around the year 2000, as Beijing was bidding to host the 2008 Summer Games, the Beijing Daily reported, citing information from China's national identity card database.
The vast majority of people named Aoyun are male, the newspaper said. Only six live in Beijing. The report didn't say where the others live.
Names related to the Olympics don't just stop with "Olympics." More than 4,000 Chinese share their names with the Beijing Games mascots, the "Five Friendlies."

Navy ends 43-game losing streak to ND
For all intents and purposes we've dropped sports talk from the menu here; simply too much else to do and cover and read about, but Notre Dame sinking to new lows has me all giddy.
This is important because the system worked, and in todays America whenever that happens bells should be rung from every steeple that can afford a decent hunchback.
Notre Dame had its way for so very many years. Recruiting violations were commonplace, players were allowed to have ghost-writers prepare their homework and even take their tests, you name it, the Fighting Irish got away with it.
Not any more. Schools with high academic standards usually have shitty sports programs, and when made to follow the same rules as everyone else, that describes Notre Dame to a T.
Navy beat them 46-44 in triple overtime. Last Navy team to do so was led by hall of famer Roger Staubach in 1963, back before steroids were making giants on a regular basis.

Victim pulls own gun, kills would-be robber
For the second time in two days in South Florida, victims have opened fire on armed robbers. And both gunmen ended up dead.
In the latest incident overnight, a man sitting in a car alongside a woman was confronted by a man dressed all in black, wearing a ski mask and carrying a gun. He demanded money -- and to see the woman strip naked, Miami police said.
The man in the car, a security guard from a nearby Food Giant, pulled his own gun and exchanged gunfire with the man in the mask. The robber ran, threw his gun down in the mud and collapsed.
The intended victims were unharmed.
The would-be robber was dead..."
And all was right with the world.

Woman calls 911, dies
"Matilda "Tillie" Kovanich was in trouble. The 83-year-old widow had begun to bleed profusely. She made it to the phone and dialed 911.
A Seminole County deputy was dispatched to the house, found it locked and left.
And Tillie Kovanich died.
The next day, another deputy was dispatched after neighbors raised a new alarm, and found Kovanich's body in her bedroom, a pool of blood at her feet. When her son got to the house the following day, he found the phone next to her bed, its receiver off the hook.
"To me, it was clear someone had tried to call for help," said son Joe Ruth, 59, of Wheaton, Ill. "I think somebody should have come in here."
There is nothing to indicate that law-enforcement officials knew Kovanich was bleeding or in distress when she dialed 911. She may have said nothing at all.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office would not discuss the case Tuesday, saying it was conducting an internal investigation, which by law must remain secret. The Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office, which conducted the autopsy, cannot say what day Kovanich died, according to Volusia County spokesman Dave Byron. But it has set her official date of death as Oct. 21, the day after she called for help. Her official cause of death has not been released pending toxicology findings, but authorities told neighbors it appears a blood vessel in her leg burst and she bled to death.
Joey Dobson, Baker County sheriff and president of the Florida Sheriffs Association, said that on any given day, the same thing could happen to any Sheriff's Office in Florida: A deputy walks away from the site of an emergency call because a building is locked and it's not clear there's a crisis."

Secret Room Found In Home...With...
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - "Kerri and Jason Brown discovered a secret room behind a bookcase containing a homeowner's worst nightmare - mold. Also in the room was a handwritten note: "You found it!" What the Browns found was a mold problem so serious the previous owner was forced to move, according to the note.
Fearing their young daughter's health, the Browns hired an environmental engineer who detected high levels of several types of mold, including a black mold fungus called Stachybotrys.
"It terrified me," Kerri Brown told WYFF-TV in Greenville. "I had heard reports of what it does for children, and I was terrified."
Mold.
Scary stuff, mold. Why, it'd take several cans of Lysol and some madass spraying to clean the thing out. Good they found it. Another month or so and they may have been forced to call in the Marines.

Beer After Exercise May Be Better Than Water, Study Finds
"Having a beer after exercise could do you more good than drinking water, a new study suggests.
Beer can help someone who has sweat regan liquid better than water, the bubbles help to quench thirst and the carbohydrate in beer help replace lost calories, Spanish researchers say.
The study results came from testing 25 college students asked to do strenous exercises in 104-degree temperatures. They were then split into two groups, one given beer and other water to help them recover. The tests were conducted over several months.
The hydration effect in those who drank beer was "slightly better" than those who drank water, said study leader, professor Manuel Garzon of Granada University.
The results have been met with some scepticism as previous studies have shown most alcoholic drinks increase the amount of liquid lost through urination.
Dr James Betts, a nutrition expert from Bath University in Britain, said a moderate amount of beer might be just as good as water at helping the body retain liquid, but was unlikely to be better."
In the interest of science, there's only one way to tell.

A&E Pulls 'Dog' From Schedule Over Racist Rant
HONOLULU — "Television bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman's show has been pulled from the air indefinitely by A&E, two days after a private phone conversation in which the reality star used a racial slur repeatedly was posted online.
"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take `Dog The Bounty Hunter' off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," the network said in a statement Friday. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."
A&E officials said the series, one of the network's top-rated programs, has not been canceled.
Chapman, 54, has been under fire and accused of being a racist ever since the private conversation with his son, Tucker Chapman, was posted online Wednesday by The National Enquirer. Chapman used the N-word repeatedly about his son's black girlfriend.
At least two advertisers have pulled out from the show and civil rights groups have called for its cancellation.
Soon after the clip was posted, Chapman issued an apology and A&E suspended production of the series.
In the conversation, Chapman urges Tucker to break up with his girlfriend. He also expresses concern about the girlfriend trying to tape and go public about the TV star's use of the N-word. He used the slur six times in the first 45 seconds of the five-minute clip.
Civil rights leaders said they were not satisfied with the removal of the show from A&E's schedule. A coalition of groups in Los Angeles sent a letter to network executives Friday demanding a cancellation."

The few times I've tuned into Dog have been to watch a train wreck. Flag-burning 'lesson' provokes UM student
ORONO, Maine - "A University of Maine student alleges her former professor offered extra credit to class members if they burned the American flag or the U.S. Constitution or were arrested defending free speech.
On the first day of class, associate professor Paul Grosswiler offered the credit to members of his History of Mass Communications class, according to sophomore Rebekah McDade. Disturbed by the comment, McDade dropped the class and intends to take the course again next semester with a different professor.
"I was offended," McDade said Friday. "I come from a family of military men and women, and the flag and Constitution are really important symbols to me because of my family background."
In an e-mail responding to a request for comment from the Bangor Daily News on Friday, Grosswiler said he thought McDade misunderstood the class discussion, which was intended to elicit thought about the First Amendment. He said he has held this same discussion for years without incident.
"I don’t intend for students to burn either the Constitution or the flag, and over the years hundreds of students have understood that," Grosswiler wrote.
The incident was made public recently when The Leadership Institute, a Virginia-based nonprofit organization, distributed a press release detailing the classroom discussion.
The Leadership Institute was founded in 1979 by Morton Blackwell and has a mission to identify, recruit, train and place conservatives in politics, government and the media, according to the organization’s Web site.
A field representative for the institute met McDade on Oct. 1 at UM, when she shared her experience and expressed an interest in spearheading a group "Students for Academic Freedom," Blackwell said Friday.
The group’s initial goal would be to convince UM to enact a "Student Bill of Rights," as other colleges have, which would protect students from professors who treat and grade students differently based on religious or political beliefs, McDade said. The institute has assisted McDade in the startup process, she said."
You see, what these monstrous morons such as Professor Grosswilly fail to understand, is the fact that teaching children to learn but ONE manner of political expression IS NOT education, but is in fact INDOCTRINATION.

The imaginary world where woman ARE as tough as men and SHOULD be capable of taking the heat, and it remains imaginary because true feminists would be marching en masse if they felt Hillary to be capable of defending herself. They don't, they won't, because feminists are also liberals who strongly believe in the right to flip-flop whenever they damn well please. To demand equality only if it comes with entitlements.

Gun experts say Eliot Spitzer's plan a license to buy guns
ALBANY - "Once they got driver's licenses under Gov. Spitzer's plan, illegal immigrants could arm themselves to the teeth simply by lying about their status, gun experts said Thursday.
"They could definitely get shotguns and rifles," said Thomas King, executive director of the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association.
King said illegal immigrants could simply go to gun shops, use the licenses as ID, pick out the long guns of their choice and attest on Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives forms that they are citizens or legal residents.
As long as a computer check showed the customer had no criminal record or outstanding arrest warrants, the gun dealer would likely complete the sale - because there are no other records that would flag illegal immigrants.
Meanwhile, Mayor Bloomberg took issue with Spitzer's plan again, saying on CNN that only those who have obtained "secure" licenses should be allowed to buy guns in New York State.
The issue flared up at a state Senate hearing this week when Motor Vehicles Commissioner David Swarts conceded that a driver's license could be used as identification to buy weapons.
Spitzer aides called such a scenario highly unlikely. If illegal immigrants wanted a gun, they'd more likely buy them on the streets, they reasoned..."
Why? Without proof of birth or nationality, a person or persons obtaining a drivers license under Spitzer's plan needn't give a real name, address, or country of origin, so why NOT go to a local gun shop and buy whatever firearm he or she has the money for? A helluva better selection of prime products, and not only will any reputable dealer run you through the manual of arms but he'll stand behind the purchase as well.
And just think how many DIFFERENT driver licenses an illegal can obtain. Under as many real or imagined names he wants. This can easily translate into as many different firearms he can acquire, all "legally".
Prime example of the twisted liberal logic. Gun stores need careful scrutiny because they forever allow straw purchases to those otherwise unable to obtain firearms, BUT, if a bad guy really wants a gun he can get one on the street.
In other words, its precisely what we've been saying all along...
Gun laws are NOT aimed at stopping criminals from getting guns.

Police Warn Crime Victims Against Taking On the Bad Guy
"Victims taking on their attackers: It's happened many times in just the last week. Victims are taking the law into their own hands. In some cases the outcome is good; in others it's a death sentence. Now local police weigh in on the issue.
Surveillance video captured a robbery at a Kentucky Fried Chicken in North Carolina. When the manager couldn't get the safe open the robber pulled the trigger, but the gun didn't fire, so the manager fought back.
Salt Lake City police sergeant J.R. Nelson said, "I would not suggest people doing this."
Lt. Lamar Ewell adds, "We encourage people not to fight back."
Where does one even begin to dispute such irrational nonsense...
But of course if attacked I will "take the law into my own hands." The Founders identified that as an inalienable right, and I have far more expertise and practice in defending myself than any law enforcement officer alive. To date, you see, none have ever defended me, while I on the other hand, have, so this designates ME as the qualified expert and not they.

"As I mentioned earlier a campaign has been mounted in Europe called Stop Islamisation of Europe. This group’s aim is self-evident - to oppose multicultural policies which have allowed Islamists to wield political influence, and the encroachment of Islam in Europe. They regard this spread of a potentially violent religion/ideology as a threat to the values which built Europe. They are not racist - their slogan is “Racism is the lowest form of human stupidity, but Islamophobia is the height of common sense.”
On the sixth anniversary of 9/11 this year, members of the group had tried to protest in Brussels. The politically correct mayor, Freddy Thielemans, was opposed to any event which could have inflamed Muslims in his city - a tacit admission that demonstrations of free speech - a basic European right - would be met with violence by the same Muslims he supports. He banned the demonstration. Several people still turned up, hoping to make their protest, but 154 people were arrested.
Now, news comes that an attempt by SIOE to make a demonstration in Denmark was met with extreme violence in which four people, including the leader of the Danish branch of SIOE, were injured.
The incident is reported - with pictures - on SIOE’s website. On Sunday, October 21, a demonstration by SIOE had been planned in Copenhagen. Anders Gravers was in one of two cars driving to a cellar before the meeting.
When he stopped the car to get through the security gate, his vehicle was attacked by four men. Two of these smashed the car’s side windows with iron bars. One of Anders Gravers’ passengers was struck by the bars. The attackers were calling “Get him out! Get him out!” Another person who was in the front of the car between Gravers and the other injured passenger, was also injured. A filled bottle of soda was thrown at her, breaking on the back of her head (see picture). The attackers eventually ran off."
Sorry for your trouble, Miss. Scant succor I know, but do not for one moment believe yourself to be alone in this battle. We're fighting them in the trenches of Iraq and Afghanistan, and will fight them here if and when possible.

NEWBURGH, N.Y.--" In a city where the street version of events is often worlds apart from the police version, a new technology might help bridge the gap.
Yesterday, city officials showed off the PistolCam, a lightweight, pager-sized digital camera that attaches to an officer's gun barrel and automatically begins recording as soon as the officer draws his weapon.
Newburgh is looking to become the first police force in the country to use the new cameras, and police and city officials hope it can help cool relations between police and residents. Tensions here have been raised by several high-profile incidents, including a shoot-out between city police and 23-year-old Antonio Bryant, which left Bryant dead in the middle of Broadway last year.
"The interaction between police and residents is a top priority," said Mayor Nick Valentine. "We think you can do a lot with technology."

NEW YORK -- "An off-duty MTA police officer scared off two robbers in his backyard by firing four shots on Tuesday morning.
Nassau County Police said the officer was home in Elmont when he heard noises at 1:15 early Tuesday morning. He went into the backyard and saw two men with guns wearing hooded sweatshirts and dark clothing. When the officer ordered the suspects to stop, they headed toward him. Police said the officer then fired his service revolver and the suspects ran to a mini-van and drove off. Police said the officer reports that four tires were stolen from his car. There were no injuries."
Except the outright massacre of common sense.
Good PR job by the department though. Convinced a news organization that a cop saw armed men approaching him and simply fired into the sky to scare them off.

Too embarrassing to say he missed, and what the hell, the journalists won't know enough to call them on it. Even so, you'd think they'd question the premise that firing blindly into the night is a safe and sane thing to do.
NO New York Metropolitan Transit Authority officers are issued revolvers. If he's over 50 then he may have one grandfathered in, but then its doubtful he'd still be an officer, and since he was not mentioned as a high-ranking member of the force or a grizzled veteran, its yet another case of the media screwing the pooch.
Swastika on Columbia prof's door latest crime to roil campus
"A swastika was scrawled Wednesday on the office door of a Columbia University professor in the latest shocking hate crime to roil the Ivy League campus.
"It makes the blood boil," said Teachers College Prof. Elizabeth Midlarsky. "This is a terrible act, not just against me, but against any Jewish people at Columbia."
Anti-Semitic vandals also wrote Midlarsky's name and crossed it out, adding a personal dimension to the hatred against the Holocaust scholar, her daughter said.
"It's ironic because I try to focus on the positive," said Midlarsky, who has received three anonymous anti-Semitic flyers in recent weeks. "I make caring speeches, not hateful speeches."
The swastika came just three weeks after a noose was found outside the office of Madonna Constantine, a black Teachers College professor.
Last month, Columbia University invited Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak on campus. Midlarsky's husband blamed the spurt of hate crimes squarely on the infamous hatemonger and Holocaust-denier.
"It's all fallout from Ahmadinejad," said Manus Midlarsky from the family's home in New Jersey. "The next step is physical violence, and that's what I'm worried about."
First of all, Ma'am I for one am sorry that some idiotic young punk defaced your door like that. Terrible what some folks will do in a free country, but the only crime committed was the destruction of private property, because I simply do not believe in referring to some hideous prank as a hate crime. And since liberals despise Jews with pretty much the same fervor as, say, Iranian President Ahmadinnerjacket, this could be a difficult case to solve. I wouldn't worry, though, about it escalating to violence, because liberals only enjoy violence when they've helped pass a law that sees otherwise innocent people attacked by their goon squads masquerading as law enforcement.

Police guilty over Menezes case
"London's Metropolitan police force has been found guilty of endangering the public over the fatal shooting of a man officers mistook for a suicide bomber.
The force broke health and safety laws when officers pursued Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes to a Tube station and shot him seven times, a jury found.
It was fined £175,000 with £385,000 costs over the 22 July 2005 shooting.
The Old Bailey jury said police chief Cressida Dick, who led the operation, bore "no personal culpability".
Ms Dick, now deputy assistant commissioner of the force, had been accused by prosecutors of failing to keep control of her officers.
Len Duvall, chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority, said the MPA fully supported Sir Ian and would continue to work with him.
"We ask the police to do a difficult job on our behalf and sometimes they make mistakes."
The Liberal Democrats and Conservatives have called for the commissioner to resign.
But Home Secretary Jacqui Smith dismissed the calls, insisting Sir Ian had her "full confidence" and support.
Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said the guilty verdict made it more difficult for police to protect the capital against terrorism. "Yes. Republicans mocked Clinton for waffling after she provided a series of vague and confusing answers when asked about Spitzer's plan Tuesday at a Democratic debate in Philadelphia.
"She was being attacked all night for taking different positions in front of different audiences, and then by the end of the night, she took different positions in front of the same audience. It was pretty amazing," Rudy Giuliani said on the Glenn Beck radio show.
"In politics, I've never quite seen that before. I know there are some politicians like Hillary. They say different things to different people. They use different accents in different parts of the country . . . I had never seen it happen all in one place, in one minute," he said.
"This is not a tough issue. Of course, you don't give out driver's licenses to illegals. Among other things, it'll make it even more difficult to deal with all the fraud, all the forgery that's going on."
State Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno, appearing on CNN, asked, "Why can't she say I'm for it or I'm against it? It's very unbecoming a person in high office such as Sen. Clinton."
Barack Obama, who slammed Clinton in the debate by saying, "I can't tell whether she was for it or against it," yesterday hit her harder.
"Twelve hours after the debate ended, the American people are still waiting for an answer on Senator Clinton's position on providing illegal immigrants with driver's licenses," said Obama's spokeswoman, Jen Psaki.
"The 'politics of hope' doesn't mean hoping you don't have to answer tough questions," she added.
Obama told The Associated Press that Clinton's vague answers raise questions about her ability to become president, saying, "Senator Clinton left us wondering where she stood on every single hard question from Iran to Social Security to driver's licenses for undocumented workers."
Clinton twice refused to answer direct questions from The Post yesterday about whether she supported Spitzer's plan.
Her campaign released a statement expressing support for governors in the abstract - but failing to say whether she approved of Spitzer's policy on licenses for illegals.
"Senator Clinton supports governors like Governor Spitzer who believe they need such a measure to deal with the crisis caused by this administration's failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform," according to her statement.
"As president, her goal will be to pass comprehensive immigration reform that would make this unnecessary."
The Clinton campaign didn't respond to follow-up questions about whether she backs the plan.
Republican Mitt Romney's spokesman, Kevin Madden, said, "Senator Clinton's troubling answer on providing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants was emblematic of someone who is both dismissive of efforts to enforce our nation's immigration laws and entirely unwilling to offer a straight answer to a very direct question."
GOP candidate Fred Thompson's spokesman accused Clinton of "speaking out of both sides of her mouth," adding, "Giving legal driver's licenses to illegal immigrants is wrong and would provide them the opportunity to register to vote in our country."
A group representing Sept. 11 families offered a $1,000 reward to "any American who can get a straight answer" from Clinton.
"It's offensive to us that she can't even say if she is for or against licensing terrorists," said Peter Gadiel, president of 9/11 Families for a Secure America."
Now THIS is of the utmost importance. Sure we don't want to surrender to the illegal hispanics and so what if they can't read or write English and will CONTINUE to wreck havoc on the roadways, NY's governor will give them licenses to drive even if they cannot do so because it makes him look good to a large block of voters...but...

Hillary doesn't seem to mind that illegals will be empowered to vote because they'll vote for her and people like her.
But she SHOULD be wary of those who enter America to do it harm.

This snafu isn't Hillary's death knell but a few more like it and she better plan on keeping her day job.
