Banning The Bloggers

Here's the deal. The word-cops want to extend their politically correct influence to the internet, and if you're operating a politically motivated blog, they want you to stop because that should be considered a political contribution, or "soft money".

FREEDOM OF THE DIGITAL PRESS

"The campaign-finance-regulation lobby — which has used the courts to expand 2002's McCain-Feingold speech crackdown to cover the Internet. This means that bloggers and others engaging in political speech online are now in danger of being charged with making illegal campaign contributions, simply for having the audacity to open their Web browsers without permission from the speech police.

A bill being offered by Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), the Online Freedom of Speech Act — which is identical to a bill being offered in the Senate by Minority Leader Harry Reid — would provide the Internet with a blanket exemption from McCain-Feingold.

The "reformers"...claim to want to create a "level playing field," where ideas compete without regard to the amount of money behind them, they've come to view an unfettered Internet as the biggest threat to their schemes.

But why?

After all, when it comes to the Internet, money hardly translates into influence. Plenty of expensively produced Web sites are flops, while some of the most popular Web sites and blogs cost virtually nothing to run.

The real problem, it seems, is that the speech police don't like any speech that they don't get to . . . well, police."

And all of the pricey blogs that are flops are...yep, you got it...liberal ones. That means more republican blogs to get the word out to the public and we simply CANNOT have such an imbalance, now can we? If the leftwing bloggers flop then rightwing bloggers shouldn't be permitted to publish their political opinions because...well...just BECAUSE.

The loony left is terribly fortunate in that a great deal of republican conservatives are the over-40's and not as inclined to start a web log or even frequent many of them. On the other side, it seems like every jerkwad teenager in the world is blogging from his parents basement and slinging mud to beat the band.

And yes, this IS attributed to Churchill and while it remains to be seen if he DID utter these words, we'll continue to attribute them to him.

"Any man under the age of 30 who isn't a liberal is without a heart. Any man over the age of 30 who isn't a conservative is without a brain."
