Ship Blasted Pirates With Sonic Weapon

MIAMI (AP) - The crew of a luxury cruise ship used a sonic weapon that blasts earsplitting noise in a directed beam while being attacked by a gang of pirates off Africa this weekend, the cruise line said Monday. The Seabourn Spirit had a Long Range Acoustic Device, or LRAD, installed as a part of a defense system.

Details remain sketchy, but it is believed that a combination of Cher and Barbara Streisand songs were used to repel the borders.

"No one could stand such pain for very long," an unidentified crew member said to Messenger. "None of us ever heard anything so terrible but a couple of the guys said it sounded like Cher and the other American girl with the really big nose..."
