Okay, here's the deal, and it's pretty simple.
Conservatives are going to vote Republican, and politicians running as Republicans know this. We can bitch all we want, but get real now. Who among us is going to vote for RodHam come 2008?
They also know that if they DON'T cave on the immigration issues, they'll lose even more of the Spanish vote, and when cultivating such an ethic group it isn't all that cool to bring up things like the law, and what the majority of the people really want. And I say "such" a group because their predecessors lived, died and fought as Americans, and while they did not forget their ethnicity, did not favor it over being an American.
But not the Spanish. The Spanish want to remain Spanish. The Germans, Italians, Irish, Poles, and many others were proud to be known as Americans, but not the Spanish. The Germans, Italians, Irish, Poles, and many others learned English, went to English speaking schools, and demanded their children do the same, but not the Spanish.
And their attitude isn't changing anytime soon. We can remain united and fights these invaders, but you know we really wouldn't, and so do the politicians. The hardcore among us will continue to fight the good fight, but the weak-sisters will cave.
It's like that stupid mandatory health insurance deal up in Massachusetts. Some Republicans are saying, well why not? We're forced to buy car insurance, right, and when we tell them that car insurance is for those among us so negligent as to harm others, and health insurance is a horse of a different color, their eyes glaze over because, We're Forced To Buy Car Insurance, Right?
And these same weak minded individuals will bend to the sophistry of a McCain or a Dickum & Dunkem, so what's a politician to do?
After all, we're going to vote for them over the RodHam's anyway.

I swear to God that I'll vote for the Constitution Party canidate (even if I have to write him in) before I'll vote for McCain or any other Republican who sells out on illegal immigration.
If it came down to Hillary vs McCain and I had to pick one I'd pick Hillary. At least there would still be a functioning Republican Party after her presidency was over.
Interesting way to look at it. I don't believe McCain can win the nomination, or if RodHam can either. If her Democratic opponents are smart...and asking a Democrat to be smart IS a stretch...they'll bombard her with waffle after waffle, flip-flop after flip-flop, then drag out all of her illegal dealings while still a practicing scumbag...strike that...attorney.
We need for Gore to make another run at it, or even Kerry. Someone easy to beat, then pray that the Iowa's and New Hampshire's don't fall for McCain's bullshit.

Hillary doesn't have to practice being a scumbag anymore. She has it down pat.
