Wildfires are herding animals this way once again, and we've been particularly on the lookout for coyotes, simply because they've been in the news as of late and no one wants Florida to turn into...with apologies to friends and neighbors living there... CA, Ill-Annoy, Detroit, or anywhere in Jersey. Here one may shoot a coyote at will, as they are classified as pests and not protected. There is no license necessary, but organized coyote night hunts require a permit to assure that out-of-staters don't wander on in and go plundering through the darkness killing anything that resembles a yote. Because the approach to limiting their territories is a common sense one, there is no problem with these vermin attacking people. They know full well what the sight of a human means and want no part of us.
This isn't to say that an opportunistic yote won't go after an unprotected child or small adult, just that what with all of the OTHER predators around, folks are perhaps a tad more sensible and cautious here than in more civilized parts of the country.
