NYC Budget Crunch Hits Free Lunch

So Bloomberg had to cut the fiscal 2009 budget, mostly due to a hefty loss of earnings from Wall Street. Cries of "The children! The children!" have already begun, but have a look at this:

"Searching every corner for cash, the Department of Education planned to charge $5 million to schools as fees for "students who consume food but are not eligible for free or reduced lunch."

Yep. Actually charging for food that would otherwise be given away to children not eligible for free lunches. And you can bet your bottom dollar that the $5 mill is a drop in the bucket compared to how much free cash is dispensed on a daily basis, but...but...but...gasp...teaching illegal aliens is going to take a hit as well:

"They're talking about reducing English-language learners..."

Since NY is a sanctuary city we're talking about at least 100,000 school kids who are educated gratis, and the poor little darlings will have to sit in classrooms with perhaps only ONE teacher and dispense with some of the personal tutors that had been hired in droves to accommodate spanish-only speaking students.

Good heavens! Next thing you know he'll be after the illegals to pay taxes too!
