Band Of Brothers Pacific Style

Insider scuttlebutt has it that Spielberg and Hanks will be producing a Marine Corps version of Band of Brothers, featuring men from Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. It was a damned long running rumor but enough guys have been interviewed and actors cast so this is a greenlight go.

Actors will be portraying inactive Marines Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge, and...bows head before even thinking about mentioning so sainted a name...Fighting John Basilone, who is pictured left. Not that he thought it was all that big a deal, Gunny Basilone held off 3000 Japanese troops at Guadalcanal, by laying down deadly accurate machinegun fire. Medal of Honor recipients never return to combat, but the Gunny demanded a return to where the next fight was, shipped off to Iwo, and here's hoping they do a decent enough job of telling his story.

HBO will once again be the place to watch, sometime in mid-2010.

The 10-part miniseries is tentatively titled: World War II: Pacific Theater/Marine Corps Band of Brothers. They'll most likely change it to Band of Brothers, "ThePacific".
