“THIRD STRIKE” LOOMS FOR PRESIDENT BUSH IF HE FAILS TO NOMINATE LATINO TO SUPREME COURT

WASHINGTON, DC— Today the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) released the following statement directed to President Bush in response to Harriet Miers withdrawing her nomination to the United States Supreme Court:

“Today, the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) for the third time, urges President George W. Bush to take advantage of an unprecedented opportunity to nominate the first Latino to the United States Supreme Court. We were extremely disappointed that the President passed over the large pool of talented Latinos committed to public service during the first two nomination opportunities. Being bypassed a third time, however, would be “strike three” for the Bush Administration in its relationship with the Latino community. Still, we remain hopeful, and believe that President Bush will fulfill his commitment to nominate a Hispanic from the vast group of qualified Latinos capable of serving on the United States Supreme Court and ensure that the U.S. Supreme Court is truly reflective of our nation’s diverse population.”

Can someone definitively describe to me what in the sam hill a "Latino" is? A person of Spanish descent? A person of Latin descent? A Spanish-American? Half of my side of the family is from Sicily, the other from either Rome or Naples, so aren't WE Latins? Or heaven forbid, Latinos? The diminutive version? And what about the women, are they Latina's? Or is there no difference when "borrowing" from the Romans?

And now is simply the absolute WRONG time to be urging the President into yet another affirmative-action fiasco, so Latino's, Latina's, and formerly Spanish people the country over should remember that they're AMERICANS first and foremost and do what's right for AMERICA.

Then again, maybe the sun-source folks, the originators of all these Latin this and thats should just step in and as Italian-Americans put an official end to this nonsense and formerly take back the name of OUR frickin' country and language and culture and not give it back until the orbiting wannabe's promise to stop squealing.

That's pretty much all.
