Podhoretz Doesn't Get-It But He's In Abundant Company

New York Post Online Edition: postopinion

W'S BIGGEST GAMBLE by John Podhoretz

"The reason Bush's poll numbers have been declining over the past several months isn't that liberals and independents don't like him. For the most part, they haven't liked him except for a few weeks around 9/11. He's been showing some weakness among his core Republican voters, especially in Katrina's wake, with polls suggesting a 15 percent drop in support from these people who, for the most part, loved him during his first term.
When a president gets into trouble, he needs to firm up his base. Last night, Bush did something entirely different."

So let me get this straight now; his constituency was beginning to buy into the constant barrage of Bush the chimp, Bush the cruel, Bush the mommy-hater, Bush the black-hater, and to pull his media-eroded constituency back he showed an abundance of compassion and this was wrong? His "base" is bursting to the brim with caring, levelheaded folks who BELIEVE that extraordinary events require extraordinary response, and he did precisely what was necessary to dispel the talk that he was incapable of being extraordinary at any level.

Sweet jeez but the hive mind can be scary sometimes
