...Is that they doth protest too much.
"In a lecture based on his new book The God Delusion, celebrated Oxford biologist Dawkins fires a direct no holds barred salvo against organized religion. He argues that belief in “The God Hypothesis” is both intellectually wrong, and a divisive and oppressive force that contributes to social backwardness and bigotry. He states, “I am hostile to fundamentalist religion because it actively debauches the scientific enterprise. It teaches us not to change our minds, and not to want to know exciting things that are available to be known. It subverts science and saps the intellect.” This carefully-reasoned, yet entertaining and insightful analysis by one of the great minds of our time will give both atheists and believers something to think about."
Balderdash. True believers cannot think otherwise or they wouldn't, duh, be called, duh, true-believers. They only have themselves to blame, though, because as long as they were referring to mystical goings-on as a "matter of faith", science didn't feel obligated to retort. Then came Creationism, and the battle of wits, nitwits, and twits was on.
When someone sneezes I say "God bless you." Not to make ME happy, but them. No skin off my nose if they are Christian, Jew, moslem, or atheist. Making someone feel even a tad better is free, and can even endow a good vibe onto the blesser as well as the blessee. Sure, most of the world's problems can be traced back to that old time religion, present to the moslems killing everything in their path, and forward to the major battle that is yet to come.
But no one is convincing Ma and Pa Kettle that The Good Book is wrong from start to finish, so get over it already. Some find it easier to get through the day with the belief that a higher being is running the show, and as long as they don't feel compelled to give in to the dreaming demon that is scheming, and off the entire family, what does it hurt.
