Yes, I speak American English. The Colonials spoke much the same once they divested themselves of the British pronunciations. Whenever I traveled, people would ask if I was from Canada, as I was always careful to sublimate the Manhattan way of speaking, and they couldn't quite pin the inflections down.
Using the ubiquitous "New York City", is in error, as each borough has it's own unique accent.
