New Orleans Police Fled, Looted, Or Looked The Other Way...

This'd be funny were it not so pathetic. O'Reilly reports that over 3000 looters from several states descended upon New Orleans during the early days of the flooding, and that over 800 of the local police never showed up for work. Besides that, law enforcement had ONE, that's right, ONE working boat to patrol areas that were brimming with well-armed gangs that had better boats, better weapons, and better communications than the cops that didn't run away.

For 6 days, New Orleans was a free-fire zone, and it was only through the efforts of arriving officers from other jurisdictions along with military and national guard troops getting to the scene that finally stopped the madness. The New Orleans National Guard was absent from the early days of the rescue/fighting...nobody seems to know where they were or what they were up to, but the general consensus from law enforcement and military personnel was that the New Orleans PD was AWOL for the most part, and only focused on capturing teenagers with the odd Television, etc, and stayed away from confronting the major gang presence.

Over 3000 looters. New Orleans police ran or looked the other way, or even PARTICIPATED in the looting. Fuck the buses, Mayor Nagin'. Some cops you've got there. 240 or so young people in jail and the bigtime looters back to from whence they came, a lot richer for the experience. Can you say Federal Indictments, anyone?

And where was the media during all this? Weren't we howling that breaking stories weren't being covered as one reporter after another followed wheelchair tracks in the mud, looking for that boffo human interest story? A city LOADED to the brim with reporters and none of them capable of reporting. Pathetic. Gee, after hearing all this I can understand why Lil Shawny the Penn needed that 12 gauge. Then again, he probably just lifted it from an abandoned dwelling. Did ya, Shawny?
