We Get...You Know The Drill

"Isn't it a bit unrealistic to think that civilians should be able to own and operate the same weapon systems as law officers or military...?"

The 2nd Amendment isn't ALL about protecting the state. It's about fighting it too, if necessary. Granted, certain modern weapons are complex and extremely powerful, and I'd have little problem with requiring a systems check for newbees. I dislike the idea of having to prove one is "good-enough" to shoot straight, but if one of my neighbors were to set up a ma deuce in his backyard it would be something of a comfort to know that he knew from which end the bullets came from.

Yes, I'd probably draw the line at an M1 Abrams, or a surplus F-14, but not if the owner was an experienced operator. Criminals can aquire any weapon they want, so most of the gun laws effect the honest citizen, and that's precisely what the liberal gun-grabbers want. You just have to recall the events during hurricane Katrina, or the hysterical gun seizures in Chicago to understand that law enforcement is fully aware that they themselves are breaking laws as they disregard the Constitution, and don't want the citizens they steal from fighting back.

The exact opposite of what the Founding Fathers intended. They had a government, didn't like it, and took up arms to overthrow it. And that scares the Teddy Kennedy's to death.

Just like its supposed to.
