"A Bronx teen was gunned down on a busy elevated subway platform early yesterday, terrifying witnesses and neighbors in a bustling Queens commercial strip, police said.
Jose Sierra, 19, a Mexican immigrant living in the South Bronx, was fatally shot once in the head about 1:15 a.m. on the southbound platform of the N train station at 31st St. in Astoria.
Sierra staggered toward the station's mezzanine, where he collapsed in front of the stunned token booth clerk.
"He stumbled and fell face-first - he had a big hole in his head," said Eduardo Santos, 45, who ran to the subway station when he heard the shots. "There was a lot of blood."
Friends couldn't understand why anyone would hurt Sierra, who worked 15-hour days as a dishwasher in a Greek restaurant since moving to the city from Puebla, Mexico, three years ago.
Police have no motive in the shooting, but witnesses told cops that five men fled down the subway steps and scattered down Broadway and 31st St.
Peris said it was difficult to believe such an egregious crime could happen in Astoria.
"I'm really shocked, especially in this area on Broadway," said Peris, who owns a Brazilian restaurant, one of many late-night hot spots in the area. "The neighborhood is very good."
The neighborhood is overflowing with illegals, most of them admittedly on their p's and q's because the local welcome wagons hold regular meetings to warn them about calling undue attention to themselves, but "very good" depends upon how much screaming and shouting in spanish, public intoxication, and group-urinations one can tolerate at any given time. Amazes me how clowns like Bloomberg can scream to the high heavens about those evil guns, while providing a haven for criminals who believe that murder isn't all that big a deal, and please now...
The kid could have been as pure as the driven snow but not from the right part of mexico, and those who were caught up with him and settled some nebulous 200 year-old beef.
